zero plate on old shopbot, wiring question...

Post by Dhaffner »

I am moving right along with my Shopbot overhaul...I have all motors now running, and speeds set. I'm down to needing to hook up my shopbot zero plate...I've looked at schematics, but my plate seems to be different than the schematics.. red, white and black wires only. I'm unsure what they should be hooked up to. Ive looked at the videos and docs and am left feeling unsure. I would appreciate any help and or thoughts on were to look. Its been great to work on..and a process getting motors all worked out. here is a drawing of my style of touch plate...

Using an ohm meter or continuity tester check which wire is connected to the plate. My guess is black. Check which wire is connected to the ground clip, should be green. The last wire, red, is not used.

Plate (black) connects to the input terminal set as tool touch triggered. If clip is used, connect green to ground

There is no aligator clip or magnet…and no green wire. Only red, white and black..black is connected to metal plate. There is a wago clip to attach a probe, but connected to nothing.

Plate (black) connects to the input terminal set as tool touch triggered. If clip is used, connect green to ground
If you have a spindle and don't have a clip, you likely never needed it (like mine). Black to input of choice and set the wizard inputs and tool touch appropriately.

Ok…I double checked continuity just to be sure, and yes, the black runs to aluminum plate. Red and white read nothing on continuity tester. I connected black to input 6 on the acorn header. I set tooltouchofftriggered on input 6. In tool touch off tab it is set to conductive. The choice of open or closed has been greyed out. I restarted acorn board and cnc12 app. I brought up alt(i) in the cnc window..and the input 6 is red. Touching the plate to any metal does not change the led to green. I must either not understand, or have something wrong. Ideas?

Do you have 24+ connected to the inputs?

Yep, if you want your inputs to work. Been there and was asked the same question. ;)
