Wring up Omron encoder

Hey all,

Have a question about wiring up my Omron encoder. Using Acorn Drawing S14954 V5 & wiring schematic for the Omron encoder.

I'm stuck on the blue wire and am not sure what pin it goes to. Does it go to Pin 1 N/C OR Pin 2 COM? BTW: what does N/C mean on a wiring diagram?

And if you can confirm that last pin is just left blank with no wire, Correct?

Blue goes to pin 2.
NC or N/C is "no connection".
DB9 pin 1 is a spare, it has no function.

Awesome, thank you!

Ive just added the DB9 connector, Is there any way to test the encoder without hooking up to Acorn and PC?

Hey guys does my encoder need to be grounded on the DB9 connector housing or is the Com wire also the ground like shown in the manual?

Two separate things. The COMmon wire for the electrical signals needs to be connected to pin 2, and the shield needs to be soldered to the connector shell.

This is what is shown in the manual in both the diagram and the photo.

Just making sure, thank you.
