loss of position and lost communications ACORN

Post by leobonil »

Hi everyone,

I have some issues with my ACORN, suddenly it lost communication, 452 Ethernet communication error, CNCP to controller, see tech ....., I exit CNN12, then start again, everything was ok, but after 2 hours of working it lost position (please see attached files), I have this ACORN about a year and nothing happened similar in the past, please help.

What type of computer are you using? Can you send a picture of your panel?

I had the exact same issues on 2 machines with 3 computers. Tested everything I could including checking grounding in the panel. I finally used a switch between the computer and acorn and it was a 100% resolution to the issue. I have never found an explanation for the issue with the exception of a possible incompatibility with the ethernet hardware or driver in the computer.

This is the switch I bought.

I think your PC is underpowered
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-1005G1 CPU @ 1.20GHz
I can't find that CPU in Passmark:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
You are running an OLD version of CNC12 (4.50) you need to take the time to upgrade to the latest release.

You have multiple MPU/CPU resends which indicates noise/ethernet communication problems.

PLEASE take the time to follow the post that Keith recommended and provide more information.
I think you need to start with upgrading the PC
Please post a pictures of your machine, make/model of your drives/motors and post a picture of your Control cabinet showing Acorn and all its wiring.

Hi and thank you Carboncymbal, Keith, and the master Marty,

First, regarding Keith's suggestion, every time that the PC starts makes that test, and I put a lot of attention to that and I didn't detect any ping lost, should do it anyway?

Second, I read all the "ghost in the machine" topic and did some improvements to eliminate any noise, I had 6 ferrite chokes rings but I add 3 rings more, tighten all earth connections and check all mechanical components. So far, the machine works well.

Thank you for your help

Laptops are not recommended for CNC12. Unique power saving features and drivers may cause problems. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the cause of your ethernet communication problems but can't rule it out until you try a different PC.
What make and model are the stepper drivers?
Where is the power supply for the stepper drives and what voltage is it?
Please provide the SPEC sheet on your stepper motors to make sure you matched them up correctly with the appropriate drivers and power supply.

I'll test it with another PC, the stepper drivers are TB6600 (datasheet attached), the motors datasheet is attached as well. The power supply is a Meanwell 24V 15A.

Thank you

Thank you for the spec sheets.
Your Stepper motor has an inductance rating of 4
If you calculate the square root of 4 which is 2 and multiply it by 32, the stepper motor power supply would be about 64VDC.
I suspect those motors would run much better at 48VDC. BUT the inexpensive stepper drivers you chose max at 40VDC.

Here is a very good document EVERYONE building a system with open loop steppers should read:
https://www.geckodrive.com/support/step ... asics.html

My guess is you don't have a properly matched/designed system. If it were brought to me, I would replace the drives and I would use a GOOD 48VDC power supply if the current steppers are to be kept.

Once I found that Geckodrive document, it greatly improved my understanding of properly matching an open loop stepper system.
