jerky movement when in the g code view.

Post by avp »

Hello all,
I seem to have a problem when I use the g code view as opposed to the graph view.
When using the graph view all seems smooth an the way it should be, however when I use the g code view, turn the graph off at times the machine halts and is very jerky almost like it changes to exact stop mode.
Any thoughts?

post a fresh report.zip and the offending g code file so we can see your system settings and try to reproduce what you are seeing.

Ok, Here are both the report and the test file I was using. I hope this is what you need. I am totally new to the acorn board and software.
I know this is a strange file because is has so many passes. It was a file that I used the create a counterbore in aluminum at .01 per pass.
But it really doesn't matter. I have had this happen with a file with three passes as well.

Not 100% sure this is the issue but your computer is severely underpowered. Centroids recommendation is a CPU with a single thread benchmark value of at least 1500 and your CPU only has 945!!!

That could very well be the issue. I know it ran fine with mach 3 but I know that is completely different as well. Thank you for pointing that out.

Not even close, as swissi pointed out the single thread rating of your pc is 945. The minimum needed for Acorn is 1500. Here's the page from Centroid that outline the bare minimum needed to run CNC12.

https://www.centroidcnc.com/cnc_pc_perf ... web%20site.

Here's the link from the CPU benchmark website and the specs on your processor. Look at the number below the big orange number. Your "single thread rating" is 945. This will create all kinds of unforeseen issues. You need a more powerful pc to drive Acorn with.

Yeah, I get that. Does anybody have any recommendations on a computer. Preferably a mini that I can put in my cabinet like now. I would like it to have dual lan ports like the one I have now. One for network and of course one for the corn aboard. Here is a picture of my machine and cabinet.
Thank you

Bill, check your local Craigslist and of course eBay for a mini pc. They can be bought very inexpensively. Whatever PC you are looking at just be sure to run the CPU model number through the CPU Benchmark website I posted a link to.

I think I found one. Processor, intel i5-8259U single thread benchmark - 2243
Thoughts?
I also have another question. Once I get the new PC. will there be any issues with the license dat file and the new PC or does that only tie to the acorn board. It there an easy way to copy all the config settings that I did to the new install?
