Marty,

I have the second stepper running now. I watched your Emco Compact 5 bench testing video where you explained how to set up CNC12 Lathe. Great video.

The thing I am having the most trouble with (SOLVED) is setting the motor to revolve once per inch like yours did. The information on the motor indicates that it has 1.8 degrees per step and also has a 1000 line encoder. Default microstepping settings for the drive are either 400 or 1000 (depending on which manual you read).

I found another manual that indicated that the micro stepping is set to 400. When I set this as the axis configuration I now get 1 turn per inch. Should I change the dip switches to set micro stepping at 1000 or just leave it as is?

You should change the dipswitches on the drive to at least 2000

I installed the spindle drive and motor today for bench testing. KBMG212D with C89 board.

I am not getting any rotation out of the motor so I must have something configured wrong. M3 S1000 command turns on relay 4 (Enable) but that is as far as it gets. I am not sure what to test yet. So I am rereading the KBMG manual.

The power light is on on the KBMG212D and also on the C89. Suggestions?

One thing that was not clear in the video was the signal and COM wires from the C89 to the Acorn. Since both wire were black in the video, it was not clear which wire went to which terminal. I have the orange wire going into the Analog and the black wire into GND on the C89. On the Acorn I have the orange wire going into the VOUT and the Black to COM on the Acorn analog terminals.

It almost came off the bench today. Partially disconnected it. 'll revisit. I have too many irons in the fire.....

I hope this helps. Its up to you to set the KBMG up for your motor.

I decided to buy a second KBMG-212D driver to see if something was wrong with the driver.

I swapped out all the connectors to the new driver after setting all the jumpers to match the original setup.

After I checked my wiring a few times I decided to power up the system. When AC is applied to the Acorn and to the driver the motor begins spinning prior to CNC12 being loaded. However I don't have control over the motor when CNC12 boots.

I need to take some measurements at Acorn to make sure I am still getting 0-10V. I also suspect I may need to adjust the POTS on the drive.

Did you take the enable jumper OFF SIMG?

You will definitely have to adjust the posts on SIMG AFTER you have CNC control of the drive

Yes. The jumper is not connected for Enable.

Then you had a closure of that enable circuit. Are you sure you are on NORMALLY OPEN contact on Acorn relay board?
