Having trouble with my step count.

Post by Spencers Machine »

I have the centroid acorn cnc hooked up to a water jet I was running just fine yesterday when i shut it down. This morning when i came in i homed the machine in the back left hand corner i moved the cutting head toward the front of my table able and it only went about 3/4 of the way. It would no let me go any further so i was messing with it and the more i would move it back and then up it would get more to the front I could not go. I got a tape measure and set my zero and approximately 1 inch then moved to the plus on my X 20 inches. I got 19.9552 as a result that is not the on that bothers me I did the same thing on the Y and got 23.7773. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

What are your drives steps per revolution set to? Match that in Acorn. Do not change or adjust.

Set your revs per inch via calculators posted on this forum, or post your drive mechanic's specs and we can help. When/if needed fine tune via the revs/inch setting

X steps/revolutions 1600 Overall turn ratio 5.0002
Y steps/revolutions 1600 Overall turn ratio 5.00075
Z steps/revolutions 1600 Overall turn ratio 24.9635

I also have a fourth axis that runs with my Y. All these where calculated with a formula from centroid non of them have been changed this just started.

if this is a new problem? i.e. the machine passed the tape measure test at one point...then sounds like something is loose.

are you saying you have a paired axis on Y?
how is the Y axis driven? screw? or rack? how is the y axis motor connected? direct drive? or belted? photos please. and post a fresh report.zip

As i look more into it it looks as if i am having some problems with the X as well. Yes the Y axis is paired they are all screw type and direct drive with as speed step reducer on each one.

Power everything down, rehome the machine.
Set XYZ Part Zeros at the home position
Put a tape measure down for rough reference. Call 12" move, does the cutting head move 12" ? Call another move say 24" is the cutter head moving roughly to the 24" mark? Run the same test on all axis?

What drives do you have on the system? Where are they wired to? Not that this will make a big difference but you are running Acorn version 4.5 which is old, you should upgrade to 4.64. We simply need more system information. What's a speed step reducer? Do you mean a gearbox?

Any update on this project?
Would be good if you took the time to provide more details, pictures etc.
