Z Axis troubles!

Post by rbuttars77 »

Hi all, Need some help. First I am a total noob! This is my first go at a CNC conversion. I have an Acorn controller running Stepperonline CL86T Driver with a Hybrid stepper. My Z Axis will only move in the + direction no matter If I select the Z+ or Z- Jog Button. It only moves in the positive (up) direction. I can't see any obvious in the Acorn wizard. Both the X and Y function normally. They are running on a CL56T drivers. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

Sound like a problem with the direction output from the Acorn not reaching your Z stepper driver. Recheck your wiring.
Cheers,

Check software travel limits in Wizard. Just set the negative value to 999 for test.

Also check and see if the drive has a switch for "bi-directional" ! Some do, some don't!

If it is not set to bi-directional it will only move in one direction.

I am having the same issue with 2 CL86T drivers. Originally I bench tested them fine, installed on the machine and after a few test moves that worked fine sporadically would get stuck only moving in one direction. If I swap drives Y for X for example the problem follows the drive which leads me to believe the drive has a fault, not the control signal or the acorn board. The problem has originated when the drive is being used in the Y axis. The most recent occurrence is as the Slaved Y axis motor. That may be just a coincidence?

To me it seems that the driver has an issue with the direction pin. I have 4 of these drives, and have problems with 2 so far. Stepper Online was good about sending a replacement driver, but as soon as I got the replacement, I had problems with another drive just as I am I am running some test cuts.

Did you get your CL86T driver problem figured out? I have pretty much lost confidence in these drives. I wrecked a home switch because the motor kept driving into the switch instead of backing off, and the gantry was pulled way out of square the second time doing who knows what to the straightness parallelism of the rails.

I am thinking at the very least I should switch over to the CL86Y drives. I believe they are from a different manufacturer.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cl86T are the premium drivers, not the CL86Y...

If they run only in one direction change DIP 7 on the driver, should work then...

Have you got the checkboxes in the advanced screen checked like in the photo. This problem had me confused for a while now my drives work in both directions.

Just a bunch of guessing until the original poster provides more information....
I want to see a report. It tells us how the user has his system set up. He admits to being new, and that is ok, but most times that is part of the problem.
