Thankyou for that info. So is there any other reason that one shouldn't use a single power supply to power both the ether1616 and acorn (and only those two boards) together?

Should not be a problem to provide logic power to Acorn and Ether1616. Use at least a 24VDC 2amp power supply. The issue is all the relays between Acorn output board and Ether1616 relay outputs.
