The analog spindle speed control wire from Acorn to the VFD (0-10VDC) should be shielded. The cable drain wire should only be grounded on one side or the other. Usually the Acorn side.

Also, your -Dir, -Step signals wires from each stepper drive should be landed on DB25 terminals 18-25. That's the way I would do it.
I would also use a shielded cable from the DB25 to each stepper drive, containing the signal wires and ground the drain wire at the Acorn side.

It is good practice to use a shielded cable from the VFD to the spindle motor. Using a good VFD cable. Automationdirect.com is one source:

Whatever you did, cleared up the MPU/PC Resends and that is important to rule them causing you trouble.

Thanks, Marty. I always only had the drain grounded on one end of the wire. Otherwise you can create a ground loop. I just switched it from the Acorn side to the VFD side. I had it grounded to the back plate that all the electronics are mounted to, near the Acorn board. Now it is grounded on an actual ground terminal on the VFD itself.
I used the existing cables to wire the stepper drivers to the DB25. It appears to be shielded data cable according to the manufacturer's website.

If these connection problems return I will look into that VFD cable you linked to. The West Penn wire I used is designed for communications wiring (audio) and though not designed for this specific purpose it is high quality wire for what that's worth.

Centroid uses the West Penn shielded 4 twisted pair cable for their encoder cable.

Continued luck!

Well it's still a problem. Turned it on today and same thing. First thing I do every time is PING 10.168.41.2. I usually get replies with no packets lost.. most of the time...
Today ping test good. Launched CNC12, no connection. Power-cycled everything. Ping good. Launched CNC12 connects but no axis will move. Power-cycled again. Everything connected and I managed to get my work done today but error log shows all kinds of re-sends again. Getting pretty tired of this.

Change the network connection to private. I don't know if it matters with defender off, but worth a try.
https://www.digitalcitizen.life/how-set ... indows-10/

The network cable has a somewhat sharp bend. Try running the cable outside the track with the most gradual curve possible. If the BeagleBone RJ45 connections are a little loose, the torque from the bend may be enough for intermittent connection.

Are the contacts in the BeagleBone RJ45 jack even? Do they spring all the way up until they stop against the plastic?

Have you taken the time to drop back to a bench test as I previously suggested?
"I would disconnect everything from Acorn EXCEPT only it's original power supply as it was shipped and Ethernet cable, start CNC12 and let it run a G-code program. You will likely have to change some inputs to allow CNC12 to run. Monitor the error logs. Make sure everything else in the cabinet is powered down.

If you still get comm errors then you may be right about BBG. It still could be the PC. If you have another just to test with to eliminate the possibility, that would be good. If not continue to let it run for a few hours and give it more time. If no Comm errors, then likely a cabinet wiring issue.

Where are the -step and -dir wires? I don't see them on the negative terminals of the DB25. How did you wire
the Yakko drives?"

It's going to take some effort and time to try and track down the probable culprit. You'll have to try a few things and suggestions previously made.
I usually keep a spare PC or two around here to eliminate the PC. Just because you can PING the the ports does not mean there aren't intermittent communication issues.

I hope you can track down the issue!
