All axis not functioning

I recently installed my x and y axis with an acorn board, 2 cl57y drivers and 2 closed loop nema 24s. Everything worked as expected. Today i installed the same for my z axis. I tidied up the wiring a bit too. Now all my axis do nothing. They don’t even seem to energise because i can turn the steppers by hand. The acorn software thinks all is good. How do i check the output from the board?

Even without output from the Acorn board the servos should lock when you power up the drives. I'd start by going back through the wiring drive by drive and checking that you have power to the drives and no alarms. Then check motor connection as well as encoder connections.

I removed all the wiring. With power to the driver and the stepper hooked up to the driver it locks up and if pushed to fail the closed loop pulls it back. perfect. Hooking up only one axis to the acorn, as soon as the acorn powers up the stepper disengages. There are no error leds on the driver and no error codes on the software display. resetting the acorn software testing all axis there is no movement in the stepper. I have reloaded the stepperonline config and that does nothing. I have tried running the stepper with the alarm disconnected and that does nothing. Houston we have a problem. As soon as I try to move any axis the led on the board nearest that axis turns red. I believe this is normal.

I can probably test the drivers with an arduino sketch but i am pretty sure the issue is in the acorn board or config. Please help.

Question: The CL57 is wired with step, dir and enable + always powered with 24 volt. Does that mean that the acorn board closes the circuit by pulling the negative terminal down to ground when enable, dir or step is required? How would one actually test to see if this is happening? For enable, is this as simple as checking continuity between enable -ve and ground when the stepper is enabled?

This can’t be good. Strange that the other two axis are also not working.

What are the chances that only the ic is bad?

Centroid can transfer license with either the return of the old acorn or proof of destruction. Save the beagle bone and cut or smash the acorn, then send a picture showing the serial number engraved on the board to support@centroidcnc.com


You could try replacing that chip yourself. I am surprised that you can't get some of the drive outputs to work. Do any of the relay outputs still work? Usually the damage stops at the chip with the hole in it.

If you blew the first drive output chip, I bet drive output 4 might still work. Which IC has the hole.

Hi all. The top chip is blown. Yes the relays work. I tried running the stepper off of axis 4 but that also did not work. I may try again. After a reset, all leds go green. When i press job start leds on x y z all go red. 4 remains green. After a reset each led turns red as I attempt to drive that axis, except 4 which remains green. Either th red leds just mean that the drives are activated and the 4th axis is not commissioned or the red leds mean there is an issue.

Have you tried with the ENA connections removed?

Thought about that. Will try tonight.
the TBD62093AFG chip has 8 transistor circuits. I assume each axis requires 3? (pul, dir, ena). There are two arrays so that only leaves 4 for the relays?

Gary, I am on Australian time so thought i would try to get ahead of the curve.
1. If removing ENA works, what does that tell us? I note that the DB25 wiring does not use the ENA pin.
2. Should the LEDs turn red when the axis is enabled?
