Spindle Zero Speed signal?

Post by Chris D »

Greetings all,

I have Acorn setup and running on my machine. I have one last detail to work out and that is to have a way to detect "zero speed" on the spindle so that I don't try to change tools while the spindle is running (or coasting down from speed).

The spindle is a typical Chinese 2.2kW air cooled spindle driven with a Haun Yang VFD.

Looked over the suggested schematics from Centroid and didn't see anything there that could help me. Any idea how I can add this basic safety feature?

Thanks!

Unless your spindle VFD has a zero speed output, your only option is to add a delay after the spindle stop command.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

According to the parameters and terminals, there is one, just not sure how it works. I will be posting a question on that over at CNC Zone.

Thanks

I use a delay in my M6.

Not all features shown in the HY manuals have the circuitry installed to enable their use. Even more so with the lesser cost and cloned models.

Do you know of any way to determine if the circuitry exists or not?

Test to see if it works when connected to an Acorn input, they are usually open collector outputs.

Short of buying a more expensive vfd that's all I know. They usually have a common control schematic in the manual that should get you going.

This morning I got some time on the machine to figure this out. For my VFD, to get a "relay" type control signal, I used the FB & FC terminals and set parameter 52 to 2. Testing showed the contact operating when the spindle comes to a stop, not just at the STOP signal. This should do the trick for my needs.

Thanks!
