Circles look like potatoes

Post by JunkfoodGuy »

Hey everyone, doing an upgrade on an Avid 4896 pro to Clearpath SDSK/Acorn/C86ACCP.
Yesterday was a nema 34 machine and worked fine. Now my 1" circles look like potatoes.

Re-ran x-axis tuning. Cleared up all the windows settings and got rid of some resends. Everything is mechanically sound - same as it was yesterday. Cutting HDPE pockets at .15" DOC with a brand new Onsrud 1/2" bit. Nothing crazy. Straight cuts are fine. Tried smoothing, no change.

Could this be accel and decel?

Report is attached.

Yeah, that was earlier today. Last run (pics) had zero.

You can see that in your post at (1) 05-04-2021 18:58:36 199 CNC Started.

Still potatoes.

Your post processor is outputting mostly lines with a few arcs thrown in here an there; smoothing might make a difference. Something like this should be only arcs and 1/100 the size of the file you posted. For a test, create a circle pocket in Intercon and see what that produces on the mill.
Cheers,

Tom

OMG, that g code file is over 10 MB, for potatoes? There would have to be 10,000 of them on a sheet to warrant a 10 MB file. Something is certainly wrong with that file. Are you by chance using "curve fit" on the shapes in Vcarve? Post a copy of the Vcarve file also please. I bet if you go into node editing you'll see a problem with the file.

Why did you remove the G code file?

I would use Intercon to create a test file. Use the Pocket function, don't clean out

Yeah, lots of circles. They have a ramp too.

I have seen some improvement by re-running the x axis auto tune and copying that to the Y axis. I feel the Y is where my issue remains.

Circles looking much better but will go out of round if I push past 100% feedrate. I'm going to run a full 4x8 sheet and check the results.

ill post a report after that is done.

To cleanup the errors, I went through your video and knocked out everything that I had not touched when I set it up for Mach a while back. Its a xeon, 32gb machine, running fine now.
