Probe Detect - Change normal State

Post by bkperformance »

Hi Everyone,

First time post. We have just completed the machine build and everything is working excellent!
I have a question I hope one of you can answer for me though. When setting up "Probe Detect" input the state for activation in CNC12 input is "DETECT = CLOSED" this is normal and I cant find a way to change this. even in the inputs section the choice for NO / NC is greyed out. is there a way through the back end of CNC12 to alter the state to be "DETECT = OPEN" ? I hope what I am writing makes sense...

Thanks in advance.

DETECT = OPEN makes no sense whatsoever. It's simple one/zero binary logic. One it's there, zero it's not

Ok I want to swap the Probe detect state around so One would be its not there and zero would be it is.

As Gary tried to explain above, what you want to do just doesn't make any sense.

All Inputs are "OPEN" by default until some mechanism pulls an input to COM to close the loop. So how would CNC12 know that a detect signal is present when the Input looks the same as when nothing is connected to it?

That's why the Probe User Guide clearly states that a ProbeDetect Input MUST be NC. Anything else just doesn't work!

Thanks swissi,

I understand the logic behind wanting the input for ProbeDetect to be NC, but my mechanism that I plug the probe into doesn't allow for a NC state for ProbeDetect. I was under the impression you could set the control logic so that if the ProbeDetect input was "CLOSED or pulled to COM" it thinks there is no probe, when the input is "OPEN" then it knows the probe is there.
I have also thought about using a second relay to switch the input to a NC state but wanted to see if it could be done by the acorn board first.

Instead of saying MECHANISM, clearly explain what you have and what you are trying to do. Upload pictures

There is a proper way to handle probing, CNC12 wants to see the detect input CLOSED. You will have to rework your "mechanism" to make it operate
Have you found and read through the probe manual?
