Spindle degree readout on lathe (Resolved)

Post by vw_chuck »

Is there a way to see the spindle position in degrees on Acorn?
I need to be able to turn the part to correct degree and lock my spindle to run a live tool on a part.
Is this possible?
Has anyone done this?
Thanks

I would think you could set it up as a manual axis using the spindle encoder - I don't think you can actually configure it as a C axis.

F1 Setup/F2 Motor set up axis 3 with label "M", revs/in as 1, and encoder counts/rev with whatever your spindle encoder has.

Parameter 93 (properties for axis 3) = 11 (rotary axis, wrap around, don't park)
Parameter 310 (endoder for axis 3) = 6 (spindle encoder port)
You might get an warning in the parameter table that the same encoder is being used in two places, but you can ignore that.

Try that and see if it works.
Cheers,

Tom

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Ok I had a chance to try this. Initially trying to get axis 3 to read the encoder axis as stated above did not work.
I played around with it and designated axis 5(the encoder axis) as M and tweaked parameters to readout 360 degrees
My settings were as follows
Encoder axis 5 = M
Encoder counts = 8000
Encoder in/rev = .00277778
Parameter 166 = 11
I did not run a program to see if designating M on the encoder axis prevented RPM or IPR mode. It still showed RPM when turning buy hand and it showed 360 degrees of revolution on the spindle on the DRO.
My next question is where do I adjust the precision of the readouts? The degree readout is out to 3 digits. I would prefer 1 digit or displaying to the half degree.
Thanks for the help on this
