Make/model of sensor, data sheet?
That's a tough one...this was most likely an original item for my 1991 Tree J325. I don't find any info from the Tree drawings, I had been running it off a break-out board that supplied 12Vdc and looking back at my notes it required a pull-up resistor...it is a cylindrical unit and is of the PNP variety. It triggers off a bolt at each end of the stroke. I'd guess it's an inductive sensor about 0.320 dia less than an inch long. I would also guess it's NC...

NPN sensors are required for Acorn. They must sink the Acorn input. I would replace the sensor with a new 24vdc NPN sensor.

It would be good to start with something new that is designed to work with the system - Normally Closed or Open??? My 0.32 measurements is close to 8mm.
Do you have a preferred unit? otherwise I will se what Automation Direct has to offer

Yes, NPN NC. Automation direct has a good selection.

I started by asking if it is possible to have mechanical limit switches and proximity sensors on the same input. If not I assume that three proximity sensors can use a single input...maybe? At this point I'm not crowding my inputs but being able stay with eight would be my first choice.
If I use three for Home I still have some room but my optional items get blown out
1. X HOME/LIMIT Try to combine 1-2-3
2. Y HOME/LIMIT
3. Z AXIS HOME/LIMIT
4. Drive OK LEAVE ON #4
5. Low Lube
6. Probe Detect
7. Probe Signal
8. E-STOP LEAVE ON #8
OPTIONAL Cycle start, feed hold, Spindle on/off, mist, tool check

I now have FWD/REV relays connected to output 4 & 5 and set up in the Wizard. I want to turn each one on from the VCP but I need to fool it into thinking there is a motor. It that possible? I can actuate the external relays with Cntr/ALT F

Just go into MDI
Type
M3 forward
M4 reverse
M5 off

One item I haven't purchased yet is fans for the cabinet. What is the wisdom on voltage? There is one fan currently and I believe (It's not connected 8-(...) it's 120 VAC. I was considering using 12VDC fans.
I'd also like to get a mounting system for the Acorn board and am looking at Winford items http://www.winford.com/products/cad/din ... 23_dwg.pdf and use a sheet metal plate

I'd by a fan based on the machine's line voltage. If you have 120VAC, buy 120vac fans. Any low voltage fans will require a power supply

I should have mentioned I have a 12 Volt power supply...and 220VAC fans are ...well we don't wann a go there 9-)
