DMM called this morning and we went tested the x-axis drive and found it to be functioning properly.
This left me with the possibility that I have an Acorn problem; Any troubleshooting advice? Once again the problem is in the X axis - see above for assurance that the X- Axis works properly when connected to the Y drive.
I was also able to go through the auto-tuning process on all three axes. I still have the "stutter" - it is worse when faster jogs are used - in "turtle mode"
the problem is not apparent. DMM indicted that it is not a tuning problem.

I'm confused because you said:
"UPDATE - I switched the X and Y servo Drives and the problem on X goes away."

DID you ever swap in the Y drive on X and test?

Have you tried swapping the DMM supplied cables?

You might try moving to the DB25 and doing away with the dropping resistor in the DB25 hood.

Sounds like you are all over the place.

You can also drop back and disconnect all drives and motors and start with ONE drive, ONE motor on the X axis, turn off Y and Z in Axis configuration
so the DRO only shows the X axis. and test all drives, and each DMM supplied cable one set at a time on Acorn X axis. See if they all exhibit the same behavior or they all work. You can also try AXIS 2 (Y axis on Acorn) if you are not having success with Axis 1

You are trying to determine if ALL DMM Supplied cables/drives/servos are fully functional

You missed a post....about DMM calling and verifying ALL drives and motors are working. This caused me to rethink where the problem was. I did go and verify all the step and direction wiring and resecured the orange wires(4) and NOW everything works. I still need to get the spindle turning and redo my limit switches to be in series...then maybe some chips can fly!!! AXES are tuned and calibrated.

I'm try to power up the spindle I have a Unidrive 2203. I may be interpreting the connections wrong. I am using the Acorn rev4 Generic VFD Enable Schematic. I am confused about the connections used for Centroid H8. Is pin 5 or 9 from the VFD connected to AN OUT?
I have pin 27 (FWD) connected per the schematic Relay Out5 NC and Pin 31 (COM) connected to the center of relay 4. There is a jumper from relay 4 NO to relay 5 center
I am also not sure that I am starting the spindle correctly. Can I manually change the state of the relays?

My suspicions:
VFD Pin 5 Acorn Analog Out
VFD Pin 6 Acorn Analog COM

VFD Pin 31 is VFD COM
VFD Pin 27 is VFD FWD
VFD Pin 28 is VFD REV
VFD Pin 25 is VFD Reset

VFD Pin 1 OR 2? is Spindle Fault

You only provided one page of the manual. Keep in mind the VFD also needs to be programmed. Was this VFD driving the spindle previously? Did you take pictures as to which wires were landed on the VFD or write them down?

You can do some testing by placing a jumper from Pin 31 VFD COM and Pin 27, VFD FWD
and taking an ordinary 1.5V battery and placing it's + terminal to VFD Pin 5 and its - terminal to VFD Pin 6 and see if the spindle runs
(With line power connected to the VFD and the motor connected to the VFD of course)

Thanks Marty I had contacted Control Techniques to get support - in the past I haven't gotten a response but apparently it's my lucky day.
Your suspicions were correct about the pin outs. For some reason I had used pin 9 which is speed feedback which caused my confusion. I will try your advise to spin the motor by using the battery. Can I assume a higher voltage will spin the motor faster?
I have had the spindle working with the previous set up and I don't expect to have to make any changes to the programming.

Can I manually trigger the Acorn relay to make the connection from Pin 31 to Pin 27?
At this point I am not planning on running the spindle motor in reverse

Yes you are correct about voltage
Yes you may force the correct output relay on

Yes.
Make sure when you are done you press the combination again so there is NO line present.

I had a VFD Thermal fault and found that the Spindle is VERY stiff so I'll be distracted with that project in order to get the spindle turning. I'm assuming the grease in the bearings has hardened up. Any other insights? My recollection was that the spindle would turn freely last time I looked but I will start by cleaning the bearings. It does not appear to be an item in the Tree lubrication diagram. I will also try to source some angular contact bearings 80 X 50 X16. any good sources WELL under $500?
