Probe on an ATC rack

Post by Toaster »

Hey all, check this out, I put a probe on my ATC rack. The probe needs a cable connected to it to work properly, and I modified my M6 macro to protect me from accidentally changing the tool with the cable still attached, this is how it works:

Hopefully this helps someone else out there that. wants to do something similar.

This is very cool! I bet with a bit of effort you could expand your idea to include automaticity connecting the wire. For example, you could use a magnetic connector or some other type of low-force plug.

Other spring loaded electrical connectors could be an option as well.

Basically the probe could have a short wire (like yours does) and it could be held on some holder, picked up with a small move before the probe is picked up by the spindle. This could be similar to how you dock your dust hood.

I have a XoomSpeed wireless conversion on my Hallmark ITTP for this exact reason - I plan to have a rack type ATC in the future. It works well.

I also have a probe and I'm in the middle of switching over to an ATC setup. I have been thinking about a better option for the probe cable and I am going to try this. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3304994 ... lsrc=aw.ds

Blah Aliexpress

I would love to get a true wireless probe but right now it is not in the budget.
