I have watched Marty's excellent videos on setting up the vfd for the Emco project, and this answered most of my questions. However, I don't think I can or want to try and cause a motor fault on my 2hp motor by grabbing it with my hand. Is there a safer way to simulate a motor fault without harm to man or machine? I considered pulling one motor lead, but I don't know if that would have the desired effect.

Many VFDs have, or can be configured to have, an "external fault" input. This would allow you to trigger a fault condition with a simple switch.
Outside of that, probably the simplest way to trigger a fault is to shorten the deceleration time so that you get an overvoltage fault on deceleration, when you run the spindle up to maximum speed and then tell it to stop.
Any drive worth using will either decelerate successfully, or fault with no harm done. If your drive fails to fault and blows up instead, then you needed a better drive anyway.

Yea I think trying to stop 1100 ft/lbs per second with your hands would result in you having no hands. Smart move not to try it.

It is a Delta M series drive, and setting the deceleration time to .5 seconds verified that it is working. I appreciate your time.

Set a slow spindle speed (torque is less) and use a 3' 2x4 as a lever under the motor pulley (also known as a Prony brake). Comparatively safe and should easily fault the drive.
