jogging and MDI

Post by 3rdscout »

New to Centroid, not new to CNC.
Problem:
using MDI: x1 (moves good), then y1 (moves good), z-1 (dro readout moves, motors do not move in some directions, ex. x axis may still jog in + only)

Always after 3rd MDI input.

Jog will no longer work in negative position on any axis until reset.

error log does not show an error?

I have adjusted table size with wizard

homes correctly with limit and home switches in place

Help!

Very frustrated.

Thank you,

Todd

It probably relates to the axis enable outputs, since each axis enable will be turned on (pulled down) when you jog that axis, and you report that you start having problems only as soon as all the connected axes have been enabled.

However, since there are a thousand different combinations of stepper or servo drives and wiring methods you might choose from, there is no way for anyone here to reliably guess at the cause of your problems until you tell us what kind of drives you are using, and exactly how you have them wired.

thank u,...the enable output suggestion makes sense. i am using knock off drivers closed loop. nema 34s. i had a hard time finding a good configuration to drive them. i will post follow up as per forum guidelines when i get a chance.

always connect stepper drives on the bench test without the enable wired.

Re: jogging and MDI

Post by 3rdscout »

So jogging in all directions works fine.
It's once I use MDI to go to a specific x,y,z point after homing that I lose axis drive. The DRO shows movement without motors working.
Usually on third axis move in any order. However, today it happened on second move on different axis.

I am using drive set- up cl86 which seem to closely resemble what I needed for Longs HBS86H Hybrid Step-Servo
I am using closed loop Nema 34 motors with db connectors.
My machine is a converted Precision Mathews PM25

I am using same limit switches as homing switches. I have a limit switch overide switch to put input 1 "limit all" to high so as not to trigger. I hold it down while homing. This so I can use same switches for home and limit.

Thank you for your help.

I am an ex Mach3 user.
I use Chilipeppr and Tiny G, but they do not have the horsepower for my new Nema 34 setup.

Thank you,

todd

Are you saying your drives are faulting?
What are the dip switch settings set to on the drive?

You really need to clean up the wiring. Also, your drives take AC power input. Are you using that toroidal power supply to feed the drives?

Please post screen shots of these Wizard Pages

lol, ...my drives are AC or DC. I hope you have some fun at my expense. I do appreciate the help.
I am using the Toroidal to power drives. All limit/home switches are connected in series. They were just installed and I'm getting everything up and running. Plus I have an overide on the limits to put the limits circuit to low homing; otherwise limit triggers stopping homing. So you will see home switch x3 before homing cycle, x3 when homed, x3 when reset after letting go of overide switch.

Initially after reading some post, I thought I may be hitting the soft limits; that's not what's happening here. Also, I do not see in the zip file where
it shows signal loss to the motors. I am new to reading this bohemeth of a file.

Thank you,

Todd
