npn sensor homing

Post by chessie »

hi im finally returning to my acorn lathe conversion after a 6 moth sebatical . i originally had 2 nc npn sensors wired to each other then connected to one input on the original board . i downloaded the schematic for acorn and it shows one sensor to input 1 one sensor to input 2 ...

im easy on which way to wire it ,so is each sensor to its own input best practice ?

regards

you can get away with one home switch for Z and X and wire them into the same input in series and use "HomeAll" for that input.

or wire it like the schematic shows and use two inputs one for each switch. and set those inputs for Z and X home respectively.

Great post here with a video on Proximity Sensors from Automationdirect.com
Goes over putting them in series:

If you're strapped for inputs you can test your NPNs for series connection. I was able to wire a standard NC Z momentary switch to 2 series NPNs on my mill application to utilize a single input.

If you've got ample inputs, there's no reason to go through the extra headache to wire in series, and most will recommend that NPN don't go in series.

I have 3 NPN sensors wired in series on a single input and it's been working great over a year now. Saves valuable inputs if you don't have the 1616 board.

these ones we recommend wire in series just fine, i have them up and running on Homeall in series on many machines.

see page 14 for how to wire in series.

The ones Keith recommends are the same ones I have. You can buy them much cheaper on eBay. Just FYI.
