Hello,
I installed acorn board 4103 on a Precision Matthews PM25 mill. The machine was functioning in every aspect and I did a performance test of 12 hours on it. I crated it, shipped it to North Carolina.

He received the machine, pulled it out of the crate. Plugged in all the stepper motor cables, the homing cables and connected the machine to power. He called me as I asked him to do.

We powered up the Acorn, then the laptop with cnc 12 software that was already loaded on it. We cannot get it to communicate. The green light by the ethernet plug comes on and stays solid green.

I cannot run a report but everything was working properly when I sent it to him. We tried a new shielded ethernet cable, still no communication. Unplugged the cables, rebooted the acorn and the laptop, still no communication.

Uninstalled the software, reloaded it and it says successfully. Still no communication.

It did not ask if we wanted to rename the ethernet setting.

Any suggestions?

Use Windows device manager to set the Ethernet address to 10.168.41.1

In Windows 10:
Go to Settings
Select Network & Internet
Select Ethernet
Select Change Adapter Settings
Right click on Ethernet port
Select Properties
Double Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Move selection from Obtain an IP address automatically to Use the following IP address
Then fill in 10 168 41 1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

A few days after I got my machine running Windows Firewall blocked CNC12. I kept getting a message that CNC12 couldn’t communicate with the Acorn. I went in and unblocked cncm.exe and I haven’t had a problem since.

How to ping

viewtopic.php?f=61&t=1451

Things that will cause com errors

1.) Using a non shielded RJ45 a bulk head connector, just eliminate it for testing if you are using even a shielded one.

2.) Using a regular non-shielded Ethernet cable

3.) Using a USB Ethernet adapter.

4.) Ethernet adapter drivers on CNC PC are old and need updated
Learn how to Ping local ethernet port and Acorn ethernet port here.
viewtopic.php?f=61&t=1451

5.) ANY type of anti virus software installed, you can't just simply turn it off you have to uninstall it

6.) Windows fire wall blocking cncm.exe, cncr.exe, cnct.exe
Watch this video on how to setup windows for CNC use.

Found on this page.
https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... guide.html

You can turn the firewall back on and make an exception for cncm.exe,cnct.exe or cncr.exe but for now the best way to debug a com error is to simply turn Windows firewall off.

7.) Windows or Laptop bios power saving feature turning off the Ethernet adapter, Windows resetting the ip address automatically. Un select “Obtain an IP address automatically” in Windows ethernet adapter settings and select “ Use the following IP address”

I've been using this SHIELDED RJ45 bulkhead connector and I haven't had any issues.

Let us know how you make out.
Ask him if he connected to a network, ran any Windows updates.
OR connected the ethernet port to a Network....

yes, shielded bulkhead connectors work... i say don't use them since so many have used non shielded and those cause issues, get it working according to our recommendations, and then feel free to add one change at a time.
