I would like to know if anybody has seen the Altaros Turret. I guess it has a macro for Mach 3 https://www.altaros.cz/en/content/53-au ... urret-head. Would like to know if this will work with Acorn.

Thanks John

That looks pretty nice. It appears that as long as you have a free input and a free output, the Acorn should ne able to control it with no problem. The supplied M6 macro looks like it should be easy to convert. It is a delay based sequential changer.

Thanks Tom that’s what I thought. How do you go about converting a macro?

Thanks Again John

That looks pretty interesting. My guess is that the acorn can control it. I may be wrong but I think there are some instructions available on using a sequential changer.

My concern is how do you adjust the proper tool height of each tool or ensure drill bits are vertically centered? I don't see any clues on this and have learned with my turret lathe that adjusting the tool height is a serious concern even if you take a lot of precautions to ensure the turret is machined properly. I've looked at Tormach's Slant Bed turret instructions and Tormach even says that tools may need shimmed.

Always good etiquette to provide a link to the documentation or post them here.
Being the nice guy that I am, here they are.... :D

Most good quality turning toolholders have the top shank surface at the cutting height of the insert. If not, those would have to be machined/shimmed to the correct height. The tool blocks have to be shop made for drilling type tools and those could be bored in-place using the lathe in question, or set up with eccentric bushings to provide a small amount of height adjustment.

Ok guys I ordered the turret. I have never messed with a macro. I hope I can get some help to get the turret running. What do I do with the macro?

Thanks John

When you get it, figure out the exact sequence of events. Post it here.
DIY=Do it Yourself, that's not to say someone here can't "help" you.
Centroid can be employed to help make it work. There is a fee. It seems relatively simple

Keep us posted on your progress!

Ok thank you Marty I just don’t know what to do with the Macro. I know I can download the mach 3 macro. Then what do I do with it? I just never had to play with the actual macros

Thanks John

You'll need to go through the Mach3 macro line-by-line translating the Mach3 commands into the equivalent Centroid macro commands. This document should give you a good start: https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... amming.pdf
