FWIW, "907 X axis travel exceeded" with no line number means he tried jogging the axis beyond travel limits, probably before he started the job running.

If he had tried to run a program that exceeded travel limits, then it would have said something like "907 X axis travel exceeded, line 123"

Yes, I ran the part 21 times and the Z axis freezes or locks up. X loses track of its position.

The software shows the z axis moving but it is stopped.

If the DRO shows it moving, then Centroid thinks the axis drive is working OK and not signalling a fault. Do you have drive faults connected to the Acorn? Is the drive itself showing a fault? The Acorn is outputting a step and direction pulse train if the DRO is moving; for some reason your drive is not choosing to act upon it.

I re-read your statement in the video clip....
The Clearpath motors have an LED indicator light on them. What color are those lights when this fault occurs? Are they flashing a sequence?
The Clearpath motors also retain faults, though you would have to use their cable and software to retrieve them.
As Tom said, the Acorn and CNC12 are sending the pulse train but the machine is not moving. You need to troubleshoot the electronics. I would start with those CP motors and decipher what they are telling you.

BE WARNED You need to know what your are doing when you are in this software. You can inadvertently make changes to the drive configuration.

You might want to get whomever helped you the last time get your machine going. You of course know when this issue happens you have to rehome the machine. I do suspect that there is an issue with the DriveFault input like Tom. Something is happening and not faulting CNC12 telling it to stop.

In looking at your Acorn Inputs:
FirstAxisHomeOk IS INP1
SecondAxisHomeLimitOk IS INP2
FirstAxisPlusLimitOk IS INP3
ProbeDetect IS INP5
ProbeTripped IS INP6
EStopOk IS INP8

I don't see an input configured for DriveFault.
When this happens again, please do look at the blink codes on the ClearPath motors and let us know what they correspond to.

I went downloaded the software from Technics and ran it.

I received an exception or fault as they called it. Flickering yellow.

Downloaded the report and sent it to Teknic Engineer and they are lost as why it is doing what it is doing.

Waiting for a response.

Meanwhile, I'm looking at pulling these motors and moving away from these steppers as it seems to be what I refer to as a PIMA (PAIN IN MY Buttocks)!

Frustrated to say the least.

They are good motors. You need to find someone to help you pin point the trouble and check things over.

I received a response from the builder and even a phone call from
Teknik as they read this forum and read my post! Actually called me! Impressed!

They recommended that I wire in two resistors to the Acorn Motherboard.

Because there is a “step input timing” error listed, the Teknic folks recommend adding a resistor to the step & direction signal lines. This is in the manual on page 47.

Teknik is actually drawing me a schematic on where these wires and resistors go.

2 resistors rated at 10K ohms and connect them to the 2 “step pins” on the acorn board along with the yellow wire. Connect the 2 loose leads of the resistors together and then crimp on a wire that goes to 24v+.


Builder recommended I also want to add an EMI filter to the power line to the VFD. Link: EMI Input Filter: 10A, drive rated (PN# RES90F10) | AutomationDirect

Hopefully this resolves this issue for once and for all!

I installed the three resisters and the VMI per the instructions from the builder and Teknic.

Installed the new motor with the configuration for mine.

Tested the two axis and home. Everything functioned correctly.

Tested on single program, stopped in the middle.

I have power to the lathe but no rotation of the spindle or movement on any of the axis.
