Losing Z and X

Post by JerryLouisMartin »

My Machine will be making a part and it will all of sudden stop , do nothing but sit there but the display show the Z axis moving.

On the X axis it will do the same.

Thoughts, I have attached a copy of the report.

Made 51 parts and then it just stopped.

Reset it, ran it again and made 10 more and did the same thing.

Thoughts, I have attached a copy of the report.

Stepper Motor?

The motors and drivers will be warming up as you keep the machine working. They may have cooled down a little as you reset it, then continued warming up again once you restarted.

There are various mechanisms that could cause the issue but I would suspect the drivers aren't seeing the drive signals when warm. What step frequency are you using (I haven't looked at your report and wouldn't know where to look there)? And what circuit is between the Acorn and the drivers? Sounds to me as if something is marginal and is failing when the system warms up. I'd be thinking about reducing the stepper frequency and increasing the current into the step and dir inputs.

I see X axis travel exceeded messages and limit tripped messages and Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller. See Tech Bulletin 270
Are you shutting off the computer or unplugging the Ethernet cable?

Can you take a picture of the screen right after the sudden stop so we can see exactly the state of CNC12 right after it happens?
Is that when you are getting the "Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller. See Tech Bulletin 270" message?

I took a couple of Pictures, so you can see what it is doing.

I apologize for the reflection of the glass.

I have also attached a new report taken right after it did this again.

I also have a video of the screen, but it is too large to post here.

First, when you LOAD the program do you press F8 GRAPH before you run the program? Does it give you an error?
It is good practice to do so. It suggests that you set the Part Zero correctly and the part will not exceed the travel limits of the machine.

The software is telling you you have exceeded the X axis travel limits.
That screen shot of CNC12 was taken after the fault?

You did not answer my previous question. Are you disconnecting or powering off Acorn with CNC12 still on? That would cause your Tech Bulleting 270 errors.

The answer to that is no. Not powering off

I always run the graph prior to running the program to check for errors. Shows no errors.

It is losing x along with z.

What does "loosing X along with Z" mean?
Why are you getting the TB270 communication errors?
That means the connectivity between the PC and Acorn has been interrupted.

Where in the report do you see the TB270 Communication error what file?

When I say the X along with the Z.

The X loses where it is at and Z just lock up.

Trying to figure out the TB270 Communication error your speaking of and what to troubleshoot.

Scroll up several messages on this page. I posted your error log.
It can be found by pressing F7 Utilities, F9 Logs, F1 Errors

I don't know what you mean the X loses where it is and Z just locks up.
Are you saying you have run the same part over and over and then all of a sudden X isn't in position anymore?
Machine doesn't stop? A video describing what is going on would be helpful.
What kind of motors and drives are on the machine?

In the picture above that you posted of CNC12 it says X axis travel exceeded.
in the other picture you show a piece of would being turned. Is the entire cylinder supposed to be the same diameter?
You upload videos to YouTube and post them as unlisted. When that is done, you click SHARE on your video, copy the link and post here.
