Looks like you have newer steppers. No reason not to use them. I might suggest you set the microstepping on the drive to 2000.
In inches on the machine I just setup, revolutions per inch was about 20.3

I am not moving very fast because I do not have a lot of time and I am also waiting for orders placed for the retrofit. I have received the encoder.
I stripped it off and it is assembled with 2 bearings. So I can do the same assembly you did. I will see the quality over time.
I watched your video on hall effect sensors.
Can you explain their usefulness to me, because unfortunately I do not understand English, I regret not having been more serious at school )
I still have a lot of questions for you, I hope you don't mind.
