Parameters Back Up Copy

Post by nandkishork59 »

Hello,
1. Which file stores the Machine and Other parameters on selecting Save? report.zip?
2. It seems it is possible to restore all desired parameter values in one go by using a saved (revision controlled) file.
3. Does the controller facilitate accessing the default values for being able to come back to square one after experimenting a lot with the default values (and loosing track of the modifications... :o ....during the learning process).... using the default report.zip file it it exists.
4. What 'ALL' does the report.zip file (created through Utility Menu -F7 sub menu) consist of? Is Machine Parameters is a subset of this file? Would this be already existing on my Acorn? If unzipped, would it be a man readable txt file?
rgds

p.s. - I should have been a bit more investigative before posting this query. I found the following.... so some one could answer only 4th query.

Save and restore report will save all the parameters and necessary files to completely restore the CNC12 configuration. Unzip the report.zip file and see what is in there ;-)
Cheers,

Tom

:)
What I realize with reference to other earlier & current generation CNCs known to me is that 'in one go' everything is backed and and restored.
Selective backup and restoring of only Parameters does not seem to be possible.
And yes - I could see the contents of the parameters file in the list of exracted files.
tks

You can selectively restore any portion of the zip, by extracting and copying one or more files into the CNCM directory. To restore just the parameters from a report.zip, just copy the cncm.prm.xml file into the CNCM directory.

It was mentioned here before on the forum by another user that the best option for a perfect back of EVERY setting is to copy your cncm directory to a thumb drive and put it in a safe place. I have done this and it works perfectly and EVERY setting is copied over. There was something or some settings that the report.zip didn't do if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can find the topic again.

Restore does not restore the tool tables, but those files are in the zip file and can be manually copied.

+1 for this.
I try to do this along with a report back up. Keep them on a thumbdrive off the machine. But you have to remember to update it if you make any changes. PC's do die.....

I've just been trying to create a report zip for the first time as I have a new PC and it won't play ball. I have the Pro lathe version and wondered if it was a license issue. Will try copying the cnct directory over tomorrow.

Be patient, it takes about 20-30 seconds depending on the speed of your drive (you do have an SSD don't you?) ;)
