I have seen a few references from members that when connecting to Leadshine hybrid drives you need to use the DB25 connection method. Also, the sample schematics reflect the same. For wiring convenience, I would rather use the screw terminals. The Leadshine prefers 5V pull up on step+ and dir+. In looking at the Acorn manual (relevant page attached), it appears to me that should be fine. The 24V on the Acorn outputs is on the cathode side of 24V so really doesn't affect the outputs dealing with the 5V logic. Am I missing something?
Also, does it buy you anything to hook up the enable lines? The drive defaults to automatically being in the enabled state. From my bench test, the Enable lights come on for the first move and seem to stay on from there on. If the board faults, it seems like it would just as likely stop sending step pulses as releasing the enable line. Any thoughts on that?

These questions have been answered ad nauseum and the answers will not change. Some stepper drives will work properly on the open collector terminals, but no LeadShine that I have tried, the prefer the line drive ttl signal from the DB25.
Acorns enable signal operates in a way much more compatible with servo than stepper drives. You could use it if you invert the logic by reprogramming the drives, but I don't know what you would gain.

The Leadshine CS-D508 will work from the Acorn header provided you provide +5VDC to the +Pul, +Dir, +ENA (IF Used) from the Acorn power supply, and then the -Pul, -Dir, -Ena
to the Acorn ST, DR, EN.
I did 3 systems with them in that fashion and 2 using the current revision of CNC4PC's C86_Acorn board along with the C34 interface boards for the hybrid drives connected by their RJ45 cables:

Thanks Marty. I had it working on the bench hooked up as you suggest. It seemed ok, but I decided if the TTL drivers were the proven way, why risk flakey operation. So, I built a DB25 cable.
I still get a bad t confused about why you s really what with the screw terminals and DB25. The manual indicates that the screw terminals allow for additional I/O. I read somewhere else that if you use input 1 on the DB25, you can’t use IN1 on the terminals. I assume the two connection approaches are the same logic signal, but different circuit interface (I.e. ttl driver versus open collector). If that’s the case, I don’t see how it adds I/o. But, I don’t need any more so am ok

You are best to use the Input and Output terminals on Acorn.
If you use input and output terminals on the DB25, you may not use them on Acorn.
It does NOT add I/O.
Simply put, there are 8 inputs and 8 outputs for use on Acorn.
A few of them are shared on the DB25

Thanks Marty. I have the Stepperonline CL86T which I believe is re-branded Leadshine CS-D808. There is conflicting Info, just want to be sure that this is OK for hooking up these drives. It seems to be working, although I have not used the machine much yet. I had some misalignment on a 2 sided part that could have been bad registration on my part, although I used alignment pins. I just want to make sure that I do not loose steps. Unfortunately using the DB25 header would require a remodel of my finally completed cabinet.

screw terminals are open collector, they use the power you provide 5,12,24 vdc .
