CPM-SDSK-2311S-RLN to get resolution that is +/- 0.0002" per encoder count. One IPC-5 will run both motors fine. Buy the 10' motor power and signal cables.

Consider CNC4PC.com C86ACCP Acorn interface board for use with Clearpath SDSK

Follow my new build using Clearpath, Acorn, C86ACCP equipment.

Hi Marty,

Thank you for the suggestion on the motors. I don't understand why I would need the C86ACCP Acorn interface board. On the Centroid website diagram for the acorn it doesn't show this extra board.

Thanks

It will save you the trouble of adding a relay board for the HLFB signals and take care of the DriveFault output.
You need to buy the cables from TEKNIC with the connectors on both ends. 10' cables will probably be fine.
I hope to get the bench test part of my video series done and posted by the first of next week....

You can certainly wire them up like the Centroid Drawing shows....

Hi Marty,

I just ordered the motors and cables ... thanks again for the suggestions

350/500 Watt DC Power Supply IPC-5 1
DC Power Cable, IPC (or hub) to ClearPath, 10 ft CPM-CABLE-PWR-MS120 2
Controller Cable, 10 ft CPM-CABLE-CTRL-MU120 2
ClearPath Integrated Servo Motor CPM-SDSK-2311S-RLN 2

oh and I did receive my centroid order the other day. So with the acorn board they also send a Plug and Play Relay 8 board w/cable.... not sure if i could use that instead of the C86ACCP Acorn interface board. I still have a ton still to learn.

Cool.
I would REALLY recommend spending the $48 on CNC4PC.COM's C86ACCP....I really would, especially if this is your first build....
It nearly makes it plug and play.....

Hi Marty,

Okay I will order the C86ACCP Acorn interface board as you suggested then. I also have to order some limit/home switches .... any recommendations there? Do you also recommend a EStop button?

Dave, for a lathe, you really want accurate homing.
I am going to let the other lathe users make that suggestion.
This is a decent metal framed Estop button with NC contacts. While it is an import, its been pretty durable for me:

You can buy individual contact blocks if you need two NC contact blocks

These are knock offs of the standard Telemecanique ZB2-BE102 contact blocks.

Thanks Marty,

So other than the Estop button, limit switches, and control cabinet is there anything else that i would need to complete this build?
Thanks
Dave

Note. I should have my motors and cables tomorrow. I still need to order the C86ACCP interface board along with the Estop button, limit switches and control cabinet. just trying to figure out if i would need anything else.

Its such a small machine. I usually install estop relays on my builds and you will want to fuse the control.

Hi Marty,

Okay I should have my C86ACCP Acorn interface board today. I have watched your newest video "SYIL X4 CNC Mill Teknic Clearpath SDSK Centroid Acorn Project: Bench Testing" can you tell me what gauge wire you used from the acorn board to the C86ACCP? I plan to watch this video again tonight as I follow all your steps.

As for the Estop button ... will I really need relays? and what do you mean by fuse the control?

I had planed to use drawing ACORN_rev4, CLEARPATH SDSK SERIES MOTOR ... Filename:S14971.DWG
If there is another drawing that I should be using please let me know.

I also found a video from Franco on the spindle encoder. He used "OMRON E6B2-CWZ1X" encoder is this encoder a good one? and can you recommend good limit/home switches?

So as far as I know the list below is what i still need to buy. If i am missing anything please let me know.

Estop button...2PCS 22mm NC Red Mushroom Emergency Stop Push Button Switch 600V 10A ZB2-BE102C
Encoder ......."OMRON E6B2-CWZ1X"
Limit/home switches.... ????? not sure what to buy yet.
Control box............ ????? not sure what to buy yet.

Thanks
Dave

I use 18 gauge hook up wire.
I would put a panel fuse on your control to protect it.
You should review my Emco PC5 build thread for some ideas. I used a hall effect sensor on the ball screw pulley.

Clearpath SDSK is capable of homing to hard stops. I have not look into that yet. Read the SDSK manual for more information on that. There may be some YouTube videos out there on it as well.
