In Preperation for hooking up Delta ASDA-B2 to Acorn.

Post by AnnArborNate »

happy Friday morning everyone. I hope everyone here is safe and warm during these crazy times.

I have a Monarch 10EE that I have converted to CNC. I have run the lathe with DC servos and geckodrives 320X. I found the performance of the small DC servos lacking and have now received my Delta ASDA-B2 drives and the 750W AC servo motors that come paired with them.

I have been researching how to interface these drives with the acorn, and have a few questions-

I seem to only be able to find a hookup diagram for the Delta ASDA-A2 drives. Is their a newer doc that covers the B2 series drives?

I have the servo drive programming cable.

I found at one time, a video or graphic tutorial on setting up delta drives with acorn, but search though I may, I cannot seem to find the thing again.

I did have everything saved as I went along in preparation for this task, but sadly I had a computer suffer a fatal breakdown and I lost my saved files.

I hope one or two of you have used the B2 series drives and might be able to offer some assistance.

Thanks,
Nate in Ann Arbor Michigan.

is your version of the B2 accepts step and direction (different model designations ending a dash..such as... -u,-l,-etc.. may or may not accept step and direction), i'm pretty sure the wiring and configuration is exactly the same

Afternoon Marty,

Here is the info straight off the drive-
MODEL:ASDA-B2-0721-B
POWER 750W
Version:01.023

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q ... 5irFltili7

Table 3.3.2 (on page 3-21) seems to show that these drives accept Step/Dir. Presumably called Pulse and Sign.

Get one drive configured and one motor, connected to Acorn and bench test.
I did a cursory look at your drive manual and the corn schematic and it looks correct.

Afternoon everyone,

Having looked at the Acorn/Delta servo drive wiring diagram, I have the following question-

Shown upper left of the diagram is what I believe is a 2 pole thermal overload relay. I have not been able to match the exact symbol yet, it lloks like a thermal overload and each pole has a capacitor symbol.

Would anyone here be able to provide any guidance with component selection?

Thanks,
Nate.

Without taking the time to search for the schematic in question (you might want to post that in the future so everyone it talking about the same thing), what you seem to be describing is a NO contactor with a thermal overload. Contactors normally have a combination of NO and NC contacts. NO looks like a capacitor symbol and NC contacts look like a capacitor symbol with a slash through it.
Cheers,

Tom

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

You meant what I have circled below?

Its a snubber across the coils. Commonly referred to as a Quencharc

It can be found for purchase toward the bottom of this page: https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... nents.html

I have attached the Acorn Delta schematic for everyone's reference. (yes, its more polite if the user posts)
