Hello,
It appears my intelitek Expert mill VMC-0600 has 5 wire unipolar(?) stepper motors. Am I able to connect these motors to the acorn controller? I only see 4 inputs to the controller.

Connect your motors to stepper drives. The drives step and direction inputs connect to the Acorn

Sorry, I take it back. They are Powermax II Model number M22NRXB-LNN-NS-00. Says they are bipolar but I'm trying to figure out what the fifth wire is. Ground?

Re: 5 Wire Unipolar Stepper Motors
Without a cut sheet on the motor, can't help you. They do make 5 phase stepper motors.
If you can't find a spec sheet, replace the motors. Apparently they are 137 oz-in pretty inexpensive to replace.
Consider small closed loop steppers....
