Using a PLC simulator to test control panel ideas

Post by Richards »

AutomationDirect recently released its Productivity PLC simulator for free download. The simulator mimics the operation of their 1000, 2000, and 3000 series PLC. BUT, the simulator does not have to be used with their PLCs. I just tried it out to simulate the various switches and push buttons that I have on my Acorn test bench. I can compare the states of the simulator to my schematics to see if everything is working as expected. Like anything else, there is a short learning curve to using the simulator; but, once learned it is a useful tool. You use the Data View screen to turn the simulated push buttons and switches On and Off.

This screen shot shows the system with the disconnect switch OFF.
