Ultimately I just wanted a stout VFD that would work and work well ! Its huge and overkill for sure. I did, however experience a small amount of stuttering due to inadequate shielding so I ended up doing what the Gs4-2020 manual said to fix the issue completely ( see enclosed picture ) along with grounding the shield on the Acorn Analog output side too ( shield to Acorn DB9 connector body ) This resulted in a tiny fluctuation in the 0-10v signal ( about 0.1 Hz ) and a baseline of 0.7 Hz ( I can adjust the analog offset via the VFD to result in a baseline frequency to 0.00 HZ. )

The result is very acceptable for me so I'm happy with the result. I plan to make a new thread with what I've experienced wrt grounding and shielding, maybe it'll be helpful to others. This was a real "learning" experience that took longer than I'd like to admit !

Cheers,

Jake

Hi Jake,
This is very intriguing. I was considering to isolate my VFD Ai input with optocoupler. but its worth to try first. What was the nominal value of capacitor you used, if you don't mind me asking? I finally got my Sunfar E550 to work with Acorn, but I am experiencing some frequency fluctuation on spindle end.

Best,
Arthur

I also meant to trow a question out there for a long time now. Do you guys install your VFD in separate cabinet from main control?

Thanks

I just edited my post because I only did the first half of what the GS4-2020 manual suggests. I did not use a ferrite ring and capacitor. I meant to, but things have been working fine, although I have had a couple odd app crashes that may be due to EFI from the new VFD being physically close to my computer and also the VFD is not in a metal box of its own as it probably should be!

Cheers,

Jake

Thanks Jake
p.s. the crash is a software issue, I was able to recreate it consistently, with the VFD turned off.
