Ball Screw compensation error

Post by vw_chuck »

I am trying to setup screw compensation on my lathe but when I click on the tab is says " Axis table can not be created due to Invalid Travel Limits"
I have home switches on each axis and I set limits off of them in the software? I did configure the home switches as just home switches in the software. I did see an option for a home limit switch? Do I need to make my home switches limit switches also?
I attached a report so you can see my configuration.
Thanks for the help.

Ballscrew compensation requires that Home be at the extreme end of axis travel (either the plus end or the minus end).

Your software travel limits cannot allow both positive and negative travel from Home, if you wish to use ballscrew compensation.

If that is the case then this software has serious flaws. Why can't it map negative numbers? Any other way around it?

CNC Keith thanks for the videos but they are of no use if I can't even turn the compensation on. This feature was not well thought out for a lathe. Really it should still let you calibrate from your home positions but not the negative limit side. This obviously has not been well thought out on Centroids end.

Sorry you feel that way.
You have a lathe with switches in the middle of the travel? That is somewhat unconventional.
Machine should home to the X+ and Z+ of a lathe.

What kind of lathe do you have?
Marty

Technical bulletin 58 says "The machine positions listed are determined by the Travel (-) and Travel (+) settings in the machine configuration screen. At least one of the travel limits must be non-zero in order to use the compensation tables"
One of my travel limits is Positive?? It says nothing about it not working with a negative in the software limits???

Marty my limits are not in the middle they are almost at the machine limits I have an inch or two of travel on the negative side of home on both. I highly doubt this is unconventional when you are trying to keep the install simple and not a rats nest of wiring. The lathe is an 11 x 26 like a Grizzly G0602.

I really don't care if the ball screw is compensated on the negative side of the home but on the positive side it needs this compensation as my ball screw changes pretty significantly as I move to 0 on the part.
