4th axis

Post by knastenrad »

Hi
Got hold of an Golden Sun CNC-251R rotary table/axis the other day.
(looks like Centroids own rotarys?
My plan is to use it on my acorn converted mill.
It has a pneumatic holding brake and i wonder if the servo drives can control the brake different than the "axis release brake" inside Acorn?
If i have understood it it correct , my brake setup on Z axis work like this : the brake is released only when drive is enabled, but i wonder if servo drives output normally control the brake different?
like engaging the brake when no step signal is "active" or /~ zero rpm is obtained to engage the pneumatic brake even under running g codes?
for rigidty / cancel backlash

attached some settings on the servo drive

Try the "TurnClampOn" output function. Program M10 to clamp the rotary table, and M11 to unclamp it. It is up to you to program M11 before trying to move the axis.

If your solenoid serves to unclamp the rotary table, then wire it through a normally-closed relay contact on the Acorn PLC output (so that turning the "TurnClampOn" output on causes the solenoid to be turned off).

good tip, thx
will look into it ,and play with the drive settings (when i get it :) )
hopefully the drive can do it ,so i don't have to edit gcodes,as 95% of my work ,i'm making gcodes from fusion

You must be made of money then. 4th axis toolpaths are now in the extensions unless I'm mistaken. Something like $120 a month?

absolutely not :D
wrapped ,indexed 4th i belive(and hope) is included in the subscription , which i now will get also because of the rapid, auto tool change

but full 4th and 5 axis require extensions

I still can't figure out what is in and what is out. Reading the features in the subscription version suggests 4 & 5 axis are included. If so, that's an improvement. However, last time I looked into it, the reality looked a little less than that and extensions were required. They made a royal mess of messaging this on many fronts.

Perhaps somebody will be able to tell us what actually IS in the paid version when they've had a chance to try it out for real. I suppose one option would be to pay for a month ($60 or 54 British beer tokens) to try it out.

i'm not shure either, so i have sent fusion some questions regarding the 4th axis in the subscription only version

well i got the fusion Black Friday 1 year offer and have got my 4th axis up and running last days.
(shoutout to swissi's Postprocessor :) )

You get the wrapped toolpaths : at least .adaptive, pocket ,contour

And indexing
+ there is 2 functions for multi axis called Swarf and Multi axis contour
the full rotary is a extension

However i have used NYC CNC tricks to make contours open and with overlap to do some contour around A axis
but all this is still new for my so need some more time to tinker with it.

and for the pneumatic clamp i'm testing the "arrive" output (as the chinese call it) on the new servodriver (JMC hybrid 3 phase stepper)
It gives a signal (NO or NC) when the Positioning is done
I have hooked it up to a solid state relay controlling the air valve to the clamp.
