Autosquare routine error message <resolved>

Post by NJ_Ed »

Good Day Everyone....

I've been getting familiar with the CNC12 software with my new Avid CNC 48x96 and all has been going well. My machine is configured with software paired motors (i.e. independent motor drivers along what I call the "X" axis. I come from the shopbot world and have my machine setup with the 96" axis labeled as "X" and the 48" gantry axis labeled as "Y".

So far I've only been homing the machine with one X axis sensor - today I decided to setup the auto square config. I started by checking the mounting of the sensors and ensuring that the master and slave sensors were offset so that the slave sensor will trigger first and then the master sensor set about .025" further in....

After that I went to the wizard and configured the "Automatic Axis Squaring / Alignment" variables using the defaults as shown in the attached screen shot.

Once this was written to the acorn board I shut everything down and cycled power.

On restart the auto square routine begins.... not surprisingly the Z axis and Y axis properly home, however, when the X axis routine starts I see the following messages:

"Ensuring axes are paired..."
then
"Axes paired successfully."
then
"Moving Paired Axes until slave switch is tripped..."

at this point there is no noticeable movement in the X axis and I get an error message:

"Undefined Variable in mfunc74.mac, line 115" (screenshot below):

...below see the short video on the problem.

I expect I'm doing something simple wrong, any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I can't answer your question because I'm not really a router guy.
BUT DO know if your homing routing does NOT complete, your soft limits will be wiped out and you have to manually put them back in.
And currently based on your description above and your report, it looks like they are gone:

CNC12 v. 4.50 coordinates file
Axis Minus Plus Return Return Return Return
Limit Limit #1(G28) #2(G30) #3 #4
X 0.0000 0.0000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000
Y 0.0000 0.0000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000
Z 0.0000 0.0000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000

I WOULD like to hear from anyone with a master/slave axis on a router who has successfully implemented auto squaring. Would like to see a video of it running.

hello.
easy...you didn't wire the home switches according to the Auto Squaring and Pairing manual.

wire them like it shows on page 10, that's what the macros are expecting! (if you want to wire some other way you will have to make a custom macro to match your wiring, if you are not an power user then the most simple thing is to follow the instructions and it works.:-))

When all else fails....follow the instructions. :)

You are, of course, correct. For anyone keeping score at home, my prox switches are currently wired as follows:

X axis master - in1
X axis slave - in3
Y axis - in2
z axis - in4

Thanks for the feedback....I'm still learning...

When wired correctly and configured correctly it works great. My own smaller router does not use auto squaring but I retrofit and also operate a 6x12 router for a friend and I have this setup on his machine and love it. The gantry is just under 8 feet wide and having the machine square itself at startup everyday is a plus.

It would be very good for someone to do a video overview on how and where switches are placed and a setup procedure using the manual as a guide.
