Inconsistent Feed Distance

Post by tashaner1123 »

I've been working on setting my revolutions per inch on my G0602 Lathe. Using Marty's Excel calculator.
After about 15 iterations, I finally got my X axis to turn exactly one half inch and match the DRO (1”). I thought I was golden.

I went on to the Z-axis and after getting it set, went back to test the X-axis.

I moved the axis to about 1.5" away from my reference and zeroed the dial indicator. Then I set part 0 for X. Exactly the same as before. I’m consistent in that I move it back and then forward a bit to take out any backlash and then set indicator to 0 and part 0.

Told it to move 1", expecting it to move 1/2” based on the previous results.

It moved .510 inches..
And changed a bit each time

I'm at a loss..

Stepper driver set to microstep, 2000. Acorn config set to same.

What is going on???

With respect, you really need to post a current report for more help, otherwise everyone is just guessing

Hope this helps

With out the information, we can't help you. Don't know how your are doing the setup, don't know what drives/motors you have, what your reduction is, what your control cabinet wiring looks like etc.

We are here to help provided you give us more information.
ALWAYS as Nigelo mentioned post a fresh report. F7 Utilities, F7 Create report
But in this case, that alone is not enough information.

My guess is if it took 15 iterations, and subsequent issues of it changing every time, then you are loosing steps at some point. Either noise or underpowered motors would be my guesses without any additional information.
Cheers,

Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

My thoughts too, but he does not tell us anything about the machine, the drives/motors etc.
Number of possibilities. I choose not to guess until he supplies the information requested in the post.

Too many users come here looking for a silver bullet answer with out providing the necessary information.
Happy to help based on good information provided, but choose not to guess based on little information. That could make things worse....
