Strange Movement

Post by tuffduck »

Hello, I ran program that I have ran before but this time everything shifted to the right half way through. Any idea why this would happen? Thanks. I have attached a copy of the report.

Try attaching a copy of the CNC program.

Also: let us assume that you set Part Zero at an identifiable location before you ran the job. After you run this job and the "shift" happens, if you jog or use MDI to go back to Part Zero, and the DRO reads zero, where is the machine? Is it back at the place you set Part Zero before, or is it somewhere else?

This sort of thing is typical of position loss. There are myriad possible causes, especially with open-loop step-and-direction control.

What does this mean? Did you figure out what went wrong?

Sent the machine back to where I first zeroed it and instead of being on the mark, it was to right about an inch. I thought about what I did differently this time and the only thing is that I tried cutting deeper (1/2"). I ran a program today removing 1/8" material at a pass and it worked fine. I am thinking I may need to upgrade the stepper motors to something heavier.

Consider closed loop steppers, or small AC servos
