I think my turns per inch setting is off. To that end, I'd like to check it using a dial indicator.
I watched Marty's video and have his spreadsheet.
The problem I'm running into is getting the G1 command to work.
I go into MDI, Enter G01 X-1 Z0 F10 and nothing happens when I hit cycle start
I can enter a G0 command and it works; just too fast for what I am trying to do.
What am I missing?
(G0602 Lathe, 425oz 1/8 200 Steppers)
(220v Motor / VFD)

On a lathe, you need to include "G98" with G1 so that it will move in inches-per-minute.

OK. Adding the G98 did it.
Telling it to move X-1 and it moves .640. I get that is a turns per setting
I'll run the calc tomorrow and get it tuned in.
To return to X0 would it be a G98 G1 X1 or does that move 1" on the other side of 0? (it seems to is why I ask)
To be clear. I jog x to a point my dial indicator just touches. I set the indicator to 0 and set part 0 X to zero.
G98 G1 X-1 F10 moves it to .640
Then from that point,
G98 G1 X1 F10 moves to about 1.3 (out of dial indicator range)
I'm guessing that the X value with G1 is an absolute vs relative position? (that would make sense)

On a lathe, commanding X-1.0 should move the crossslide 0.5" towards the centerline assuming you are starting from X0. If you then command X1.0 the crosslide should move a total of 1.0" away from the centerline, 0.50 inches back to zero and then 0.5 inches to X+1.
On a lathe X and Y moves are always absolute positions (U and V are incremental), and X is working on diameters so the actual move is half the commanded move.
