ENCODER Installation

Post by JerryLouisMartin »

I recently finished the Encoder install on my Wood Lathe. 8000 pulses, 2000 line.

Looking for instructions on setting this up.

Manual does not give a whole lot of information on setup and what needs to be done. Cheat Sheet somewhere?

Need to enable anything on the advance page on axis setup?

Does the spindle now have an axis name such as C or something?

https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... ds/304.pdf page 3, step 1. Your spindle will not have a name as it is not an axis.
Cheers,

Tom

Tom's method will work. But since you have a WOOD LATHE, you will not be using it to RIGID tap. I assume all you want to do is use CSS, maybe threading, here is the simple method using the Wizard:

All you need to do is go into the Wizard, SPINDLE SETUP Sub Section
Spindle Encoder = YES
Spindle Encoder Counts = 8000 (If when you run the spindle in its normal direction the RPM on the display shows a -Negative number, go back into Spindle Encoder Counts and enter it this way = -8000

Write the settings. Be sure to exit and re enter CNC12

Then turn the spindle by hand. You should see the RPM change on the main display.

I have installed my new encoder and I’m seeing a 438 Spindle Slave Position Error?

How do I resolve?

Thanks!

If the encoder counts are correct, it could be you are exceeding the acceleration capacity of the Z-axis motor. Try slowing the spindle speed down and see if the Z-axis can keep up.
