Connect Acorn board with Teco TSTA driver / hookup

Post by Mathes »

Hello!

I am looking for informations to connect my new acorn board with Teco TSTA driver.

Have somebody a hookup sketch for me?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Regards

Welcome Mathias.
PLEASE take the time to follow and provide the information in this post: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=383
We can not "SEE" what you "SEE" so you have to give us the information.

Thanks for posting the picture. At least we can see it is a new build. Do you have experience with those TECO drives previously?
I would suggest using the Acorn System Schematic as a guide when wiring those drives. While it is in the Acorn schematic package, I have attached it for your convenience.

We will need to see a manual for your drives to make the step and direction connection recommendations. You would do well to read the drive manual cover to cover to understand WHICH model drive you have and which wiring example to follow and how to program the drive.

We will be happy to help once we have the information and can see the big picture.

I am not familiar with your drive, but I found a manual online for a drive that I think is your drive. Be very careful. Read the manual completely before making connections. I'm ASSUMING that your drives can use a 24VDC input for the step and direction signals. I could be wrong. Read the manual to verify that the step and direction signals can use 24VDC before you make any connections.

Page 2-25 of the TSTA manual shows how to connect the step and direction inputs when the drive is set to Pe mode. The Acorn headers, H2 and H3, are generally used with servo drives. They SINK current. It looks to me like pin 14 on the drive is the plus (+) side of the step signal and pin 16 is the plus (+) side of the direction signal. You would connect them to +24VDC (verify that the drive can use 24VDC on the step and direction lines before connecting pins 14 and 16 to 24VDC). Pin 13 would be connected to ST1, ST2, ST3 OR ST4, depending on which axis the drive is connected to. Pin 15 would be connected to DR1, DR2, DR3 OR DR4.

The DMM DYN4 drive that I use also has an Enable signal that enables the drive to turn the motor. I can't see an enable input signal for your drive. Also, the Alarm signal (D0-2, pin 19) looks like it SINKS current, that is, it looks like it acts as a load drawing current from a 24VDC power source. When 24VDC is connected to the 24V pin on either H1 or H4, the Acorn acts as a power source to devices connected to the Input pins. If you connect pin 19 to one of the Acorn's inputs, the Alarm signal on your drive will be sensed by the Acorn. Check it out carefully.

Be very careful. I'm making a lot of assumptions. Read your manual carefully. Make sure that you understand how each signal works and the voltage level of each input and output. Centroid has excellent schematics showing how to connect the Acorn to various drives. Look at the ESTUN, DELTA, YASKAWA, and DMM schematics. They will guide you through the connection process.

Hello!

Thanks for the reply!

First of all I will do the hookup for the power supply.

The rest I will do step by step.

Hello,

I have attched the manual from the Teco TSTA driver.

The have 24V in and outputs.

You can see the hooku up at page 2-25.

Can anyone advise me how I can connect it to the acorn board?

Need I an additional pull up resisitor? I am not really skilled with these topics....

Thanks in advance!

I just perused the manual. Thanks for posting it.
I think this page pertains the closest:
Teco Wiring.JPG
SON= Servo ON (Search the document for ENABLE)

I would contact TECO support and talk to them about using Pulse, Dir (Sign), and Enable (SON=Servo On)

My best guess would be to supply +5VDC from the Acorn power supply to
Pulse
Sign

Then connect:
/Pulse to Acorn Header ST
/Dir to Acorn Header DIR

I am unsure how to connect SON (Servo ON or Enable) You need to ask Teco about that.
Just understand that Acorn Headers SINK the signal (-) when you talk to Teco.

You should also ask TECO about which servo drive parameters need to be set for Step/Dir use.
It appears you may also have to connect CCW1 and CW1 to CN1-48

Again, I would CALL Teco support. I have done so in the past and generally good to get support.
PLEASE DOCUMENT your connections and parameter settings so perhaps we can do a schematic for the drives.

Keep us posted.

Hello Marty,

thanks for your reply!

I will contact Teco for the topics.

I found presets at the Wizard for a TSTA driver.

Kind regards

Mathias

Yes, I saw it in the drive library. If its there, there is usually a schematic associated. But there is not. I am checking with Centroid to see if they have one.

Hello,

please noter the answer from Teco:

Dear Sir,

I have asked my FAE engineer .

We do not know your controller.

Please contact your controller company first and advise how to hook our servo driver to your controller.

Or you could send example how your controller to connect the other company servo driver to me.

My engineer might get your advise if he sees your example.
Sincerely,

Possible for somebody to advise me which hookup is close to the TECO one?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Mathias
