Looking at the OMRON webpage, it looks like the encoder you have is an open-collector version. The acorn requires a quadrature version, i.e. +A,-A,+B,-B,+Z,-Z. Investigate this closer but I think this might be your problem. Don't ask why it works when turned by hand without motor running, some thinks are not for us lay people to know. LOL

Also, I would strongly suggest you use a shielded pair cable from Acorn 0-10 to vfd with shield grounded at the acorn end at the 0-10 connector. Shield not grounded on vfd end.

I think this is the OMRON encoder you need. E6B2-CWZ1X

I changed vi to ai which I should have done but it still didn't fix my problem with the vfd not changing speed based on the voltage

Do you have the VFD configured for remote input?
Cheers,

Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Omron Encoder Part number should be: OMRON E6B2-CWZ6C 1000 to 2000ppr should be fine for encoder spindle

Attached are my notes for a Huan Yang HY Series VFD (do a search on the forums for Huan Yan HY, been discussed A LOT on the forum.
Let us know how you make out and if the notes help you out at all...

There are actually knock offs of the Huan Yang VFD

Someone sent me instructions when I got it that weren't quite right for my model but the one Marty sent was what I needed lucky I figured it out later the day I posted this the instructions were kinda miss leading at first I've never used a vfd so I figured all this is a good learning experience.
