Acorn retrofit on Fagor SERVOS
Hi
I have bought a Pinacho CNC lathe with Fagor control (8055), that has a bad CPU card.
Looking for a new controller and since i have an acorn on my cnc mill i wonder if there is any "media / signal converters" available to convert from the Acorn Step/direction to SERVOS via fiberoptics?
The drives is as mentioned Fagor with the type number AXD 1.08-s0-0. they have fiber optics only as input signals

Re: Acorn retrofit on Fagor SERVOS
sell them on ebay, use the money to buy new motors and drives for the project.

I agree, dont mess with old stuff that is inconsistent and will often cause issues.

To answer your question, there was a long time ago, BUT its NOT worth it!knastenrad wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 7:25 pm Hi

There is a lot that goes into the electronics.
Best bet, replace the servo motors and servo amplifiers with a new matched set of motors.
Since you DID NOT show the machine, we have no real idea how big it is so we could make recommendations.
You also did not mention if the servos are DC BRUSH or AC Servo.
When you provide more detailed information, we can provide more detailed suggestions.

Re: Acorn retrofit on Fagor SERVOS
thx for the replys guys
Yes i have considered selling the drives at least.
they are AC servos and i will provide more info regarding motors later.
meanwhile here's a photo of a similar machine

Re: Acorn retrofit on Fagor SERVOS
You will need healthy servos to drive that machine.
You will not be able to use the XY handwheels unless you go with OAK and new AC Servos and drives.
You could go with Acorn and AC Servos that take step and direction and the wireless MPG.

Re: Acorn retrofit on Fagor SERVOS
i have someone on hand who is interested in buying the Fagor servos/drives and the fagor controller stuff , so it seems it can be some new servos/drives on this machine
Regarding Acorn, can it be used with 2 pcs wireless MPG, so one is set to Z axis and the other to X axis? fabricate a custom panel for them
And if so can the be used simultaneously? i really would like to have 2 handwheels to use it like as a traditional

No. One wireless MPG per Acorn.knastenrad wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 3:47 pm i have someone on hand who is interested in buying the Fagor servos/drives and the fagor controller stuff , so it seems it can be some new servos/drives on this machine

You will note there is an axis selector knob on the MPG. You can choose which axis you want to Jog.

Re: Acorn retrofit on Fagor SERVOS
If you want to use handwheels on a lathe, you'll have to move up to the Oak controller with servos.
Cheers,
Tom

Re: Acorn retrofit on Fagor SERVOS
I would use OAK and new Servos on that lathe....you have a turret to control. It can be done with Acorn and Ether1616.
That's me though.
