defeat limits button not active (pretty sure I have it figured out)

Post by geckocycles »

I hit the limits while homing and can't get the machine to back off the limit. I hit the defeat button and no light on the button.

Please see this post.
Don't know what you have, you don't provide Wizard Screen shots and you don't post a report

If holding down a limit I click on the defeat limit button I see that I am clicking on the button but the button color in the corner doesn't change to active.

I see by the other post Marty sent me on how to wire up the limits. I need to change some things as they are different than CNC4PC drawings and no word from Arturo that means anything and no word at all today. It is the weekend tho.
I now have all the limits in series with the estop to IN8, NOT RIGHT! No limits to IN2 now. I had one limit wired to it before but no assignment to the pin as I didn't see a limit option as a input choice. That is what I have to look into more.

I'm going to rewire as per Marty's instructions so hold on.

Plesae don't be lazy and not provide the Wizard screen shots as requested in the post.
I want to see AT LEAST the screen shots of your Axis config settings, Input/output, configuration, homing and travel screens and your Homing Screen
I wannt to know which end of each axis your home switches are located.

Thank you for posting a report.
Here is what I see from it.
1. You are using simple home not automatic home (Home to switches)
2. You have not configured your soft limits
3. You have not configured your homing direction.

If you have simple home setup, the control basically expects YOU to jog the machine to what you want to be the home position and press cycle start to set home at that position:
This is a screen shot of the Homing and Travel screen set to SIMPLE HOME:
Simple Home.jpg
Here is a screen shot when you choose Automatic homing (Still needs to be configured, axis travesl, what end the home switches are on etc)
When you choose this, AND configure it properly, the WIZARD will create the CNCM.HOM file for you.
Automatic Home to Switches.jpg
It appears FROM your latest report, that you have SIMPLE home Checked instead of home to switches by looking at your report.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO POST THE REQUESTED WIZARD SCREEN SHOTS. We cannot "SEE" what you "SEE"

Sorry I sent CNC12 screen instead of wizard shots.
I'm sure I have it wired wrong, even though Arturo said I had it wired correctly and I do not have it configured to use those limits as homes.
This is clearly not Centroid issues I see now but CNC4PC. Sorry to bother you.

I did get another useless reply from Arturo when I asked which of the 2 drawings should I use AGAIN or can he give me a drawing that shows limits with DG4S drives. He keeps telling me to use the drawing that addresses the DG4S drives (WS_245.pdf) but I say what about the limits? His reply:
"We do not have a wiring diagram covering limit switches and DG4S as they are not related to each other in any way.
The ACORN can run on +12 or +24vdc, you can leave it running at +24vdc with no problem. BUT!!!! the C86 NEEDS to be +12vdc, as it is the C86 what powers the DG4S with +12vdc."

I guess I just don't get how to work these two drawings together as a start and Arturo is not going to help with a drawing that shows both limits and DG4S.
Power Acorn with 12v would be a start?

If you are using Arturo's XML file or setup file, then you will have to follow his instructions.
I like his stuff, but his documentation leaves a little to be desired. I have suggested to him he get caught up on finalzing documentation. Otherwise its confusing users more than helping them unfortunately.

We have a difficult time supporting Acorn users using his boards because many of us do not use them. It did test a couple of them, and helped improve them, but he has to get his docs updated.

Thanks again Marty.
I am just not going to wire limits correctly, if there is a correct way?, being that he doesn't say I can use them with these drives. WOW! He sure didn't mention that when he sold me the hardware. I would of bought what ever works the best. Not saying money is no object but wasting it and my time is.
I'll continue to home in place and continue to use the limits connected with the ESTOP. At least it will stop before it crashes.

Using mechanical switches or proximity switches? (You didn't say)
Which end of each axis are you home switches on? (You didn't say)

ASSUMING:
Usually on a Mill
Z+ Top of head travel
X- Table all the way to the Right
Y+ Table all the way forward or closest to you
If mechanical, wire them in series. One end to Acorn Power supply COM and the other to Input 1

In the Wizard:
Inputs:
Assign Input 1 to HomeALL

Homing and Travel:
Tick the radio button: Wizard to Generate Automatic Home Programe based on Selections below
Tick the radiou button: Automatic Homing: machine seeks switches to home.

In Home and Axis Travel,
Set Axis 1 (X) to -(M91)
Set Axis 2 (Y) to +(M92)
Set Axis 3 (Z) to +(M92)

Set your Software travel limits:
Y & Z will go in the Travel Limit(-) fields and have a - in front of the number. For example if you have 5" of Z, you would input -5
X will go in the Travel Limit(+) field and have nothing in front of it, just the travel distance

Again, since you didn't give any details about your machine's setup, I am generalizing above.

If you have trouble ELABORATE with details about your machine, its home switches AND POST screen shots of your Wizard pages, along with a fresh report
