digitizing issue some Y points missing <resolved>

Post by bphillip2 »

I'm trying to digitize a car windshield. When I did rows it worked as expected. When I use grid I get strange data with most of the Y values missing.

grid moves in X and Z then a short move in Y then X and Z etc, when you have X axis set to move first. data looks normal to me.

Now I'm remembering that this point data is designed to create g-code. I can't think of an application for myself that would use that. We would probe to get CAD file surfaces or data, manipulate, then cut. So without X Y Z points the CAD import creates garbage from this dig file.

If I understand the Y data in this case is "modal" and needs to be added in a spreadsheet to create 3 point data for CAD import, fun :(

The new button in CNC12 would be called "Grid to CAD" and give all 3 points at each contact, or the current button could just give all 3 points. After all controller RAM is not exactly in short supply these days.

Here is a concave surface from the data above, as seen by cloud point import.

please read the users manual on the DIG to CAD button in the Digitizing menu.
dig to cad.PNG

it converts your .DIG file (GCODE) to xyz cad cloud point data.

 Sorry, I actually knew this at one time 6 months ago, but some how forgot this time around. I had just renamed the dig file.
