Re: Changes in Wizard not saved, cannot set Home
Okay thanks for posting the report. Zip file The PLC source program shows that there are no home switches set up on any of the inputs the homing menu will not work until you have home switches set up in the wizard input menu. I recommend you follow the hookup schematic suggestion of using Home all, as it is the easiest to get running right away.

Re: Changes in Wizard not saved, cannot set Home
Then I edited the inputs from Home all switches and Limit all switches going to input 1 and input 2, to individual input switches for x,y, and z, which is what my machine has, using the Wizard.
I set the directions to home switches and the travel limits in the table.
I clicked the lower right corner of screen to write settings, exited CNC12 as requested, and restarted CNC12.
When doing a ALT I, the three inputs in position 1,2,3, and 8 (estop) are all red, indicating normally closed.
The diagram picture of my Home switch inputs matches the "Acorn rev4 Limit/Home NPN Proximity sensors" diagram, except my switches all connedt to the common, and do not have proximity sensors.
My E-stop and sensor inputs match the diagram, as all are Normally closed.
In one of Marty's videos, he stresses that all home switches should be wired Normally Closed.
The manual states that the CNC 12 program will write a cnc.hm program after doing the Auto Home per the settings in the Wizard.
My machine will NOT move when I push the set home button in the VCP, and then push the green button cycle start.
The screen will momentary show a list of the home settings, and then stop, and clear screen
Using the M91/Z in MDI will send the Z axis up to contact the Home switch, as set in the Wizard. When the Z home switch makes contact the machine stops, and the comment box reads, " axis 3 fault"
I then have to power off the machine drive to manually turn the ballscrew to move off the home switch.
It appears that my settings in the Wizard are not being set in the PLC, or where ever these settings are stored.
Also, since no Homing takes place, no homing program is ever written by the CNC12 program.
In the diagram relating to a Gecko G540, #S14979. dwg, it states that Normally closed switches are wired in series, and Normally open switches are wired in parallel when using Home ALL.
My switches are not in series, and they are set to N/C.
Could this be part of my problem, with the machine not able to set Home?
Thank you all
John

Re: Changes in Wizard not saved, cannot set Home
If inputs set to normally closed, and the wiring and switches are correct, the input on the diagnostic screen should show Green, (input active). When you press any switch it should open the curcuit and go red.
Please post screen shots of your Wizard input page
Did you run the +24vdc jumper to to the input terminal marked 24v? Without it, the inputs will not activate.
Pictures of your Acorn board and wiring would also be helpful

Re: Changes in Wizard not saved, cannot set Home
I do understand where the 24v wire connects. The input terminals for in1, in2,in3, in4 and the top screw terminal is for the 24v dc wire, or the upper input terminal connector far right side, next to in8 (E-stop)
Yes, all (3) of the Home switches show green, and turn red on manual activation, as well as the E-stop
However, when powering down after writing in the inputs section of the Wizard in order to save the values, the Heartbeat cycle never turns off. even though the program is off.
If I power off the board, and the Centroid power supply, and restart CNC12, the settings of the input direction settings in the Wizard are all changed to
M92+. The only Home switch direction that has to be M92+ is axis 3, Z.
Both X and Y Home switches have to be set in the minus direction. Since the settings are not being saved permanently, there is something else at play which is beyond my knowing.
I did find the cncm.hom program. The CNC12 definition, referred to in the Home settings menu in the Wizard was cncm.ho.
When I try to set home per the screen prompts when the program starts, a list appears and then M26Z, M26Y, M26X , then it dissappears.
In your videos, you mention the Heartbeat LED turning off, then back ON when you do any screen mods.
In my machine the Heartbeat cycle LED never turns off when I power down CNC12. When I power on the CNC control system, the Heartbeat LED starts blinking without the program ever being loaded.
This may be the problem.
I would like to know the answer to the Heartbeat cycle never turning off, when this is apparently when many PLC settings are written into the CNC12 permanent settings memory location.
Thanks,
John

Heart beat is always blinking at one pulse per second after it boots up after power is applied.

The Heartbeat never turns off when closing CNC12 to save settings.
The Heartbeat begins blinking as soon as the Centroid Acorn board is powered up, and the CNC12 has not even been started.
How can the settings ever get written to the machine code, if the Heartbeat never turns off, indicating the program has written last settings to memory.

As long as power is applied to Acorn, the heartbeat must be present unless it does a firmware update.mrprecise wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 9:37 pm The Heartbeat never turns off when closing CNC12 to save settings.

Writing changes has no effect on the heartbeat.
