ACORN control board cnc 12 not loading (Resolved)

Post by jim2000 »

New Acorn board nr:C134359, with a new Intel NUC with win 10 pro. Changed all parameters on the win 10 to meet centroid specs. updated win 10 before downloading cnc 12. Pinged IP:10.168.41.1 and also pinged the acorn board IP: 10.168.41.2. Pinged 100 no loss. Downloaded CNC 12 from centroid website :CNC 12 v4.20.1. Extracted zip and clicked setup. I marked for CNC to start at starting. The program installed but would not start. The screen sais:"unable to communicate with acorn. If this is the first time you seen this message, exit and restart CNC12.
Otherwise please check window firewall, Ethernet Cable and Acorn Heartbeat.
Press any key to exit."
Firewall is turned off, heartbeat is good, ethernet cable is good! I used the cable to go on internet. I deleted the CNC12 a couple times and redid the download, nothing seemed to work.
Anybody any ideas? The only other idea I have, the kernel on my win 10 machine is 64 or should it be 32, does it matter?

That's the same message I get when I open cnc12 without the Acorn connected. Double check the ethernet connection. I would change the startup option to not start cnc12 with power on. That way I could check the ethernet just prior to opening cnc12.

thnx for your input, I pinged 10.168.40.1 and 10.168.40.2 they are both at 100%. Just to make sure I tried cnc12 with the acorn board not plugged in and plugged in, to no avail. I keep getting the fault code. Unless somebody can come up with a reason for the acorn board not letting the cnc12 program boot, I'm lost for any ideas. The only other thing I can think of is the new cat 5 ethernet cable from centroid, but it functions perfect if I plug it into my internet router and if it was bad it would not get the internet. If somebody does not come up with a valid problem that I can't seem to arrive at, I am going to call Centroid for help. This is not rocket science its just a board.

The firewall is turned off. Before I installed the Acorn I changed the settings on win 10 to Centroid specs

The network connection is set to the centroid specs as shown in the youtube video, including the IP address is set to 10.168.41.1 on the acorn board. Have deleted the cnc12 program a few times and downloaded it new and installed it, but to no avail. I am starting to think that the acorn board is bad, although the heartbeat is there and all the ethernet led's blink like they should but it always shows a fault code.

There are a number of issues as posted above.

- Your IP addresses are not consistent in above posts (you correctly reference both 10.168.41.1 and 2 but incorrectly 10.168.40.1 and 2). Typo on this thread or CNCPC setting error?
- You make no reference to the IP subnet (should be class C i.e. 255.255.255.0). Is this set correctly?
- You state you reconnect the ethernet cable to your router to connect to the internet for downloading CNC12 s/w, apparently after setting your IP static address. Surely you would download s/w BEFORE setting the static IP and BEFORE disabling anti-virus (assuming this was done) and firewall - Simply not secure to do otherwise and may also risk unintended adapter reset to DHCP commanded by your router. In any event, why did you not use another PC to download s/w and then use a thumb drive to transfer to CNCPC.

Hope this helps
Hope this helps
