Dear Acorn creators,
My Emco Compact 6P Acorn conversion gets slowly towards its end and an Emco F1 mill is already waiting.
So I got a question for you:
If the mill spindle would get an encoder would the mill software & Acorn be able to run the spindle synchronous with the 4th axis (or any other) ?
My guess is that it is pretty much what the lathe software and the Acorn are doing during threading and it should be possible - however my confidence level is not at 100%.
Just to make the thought more realisitc: Imagine a gear hobbing process with the hob in the spindle. This would require that the spindle and the 4th axis - which turns the blank part - run synchronous (and yes I know for such a small mill this is an unusual process but it's meant to be for a quite small modulus in the 0.5 mm area).
I am looking forward to your appreciated answer.
Best regards from Germany & stay healthy !

Re: Acorn Mill Pro - Encoded Spindel & 4th Axis Synchronization
... time to order another Acorn board - but the question is still open before.
The task is very similar to rigid tapping or lathe threading but it would be nice to get a confirmation as I haven worked with the mill software so far.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Acorn Mill Pro - Encoded Spindel & 4th Axis Synchronization
Currently CNC12 does not support the spindle synchronized with any other axis than Z. Hobbing is on the to-do list.
Cheers,
Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: Acorn Mill Pro - Encoded Spindel & 4th Axis Synchronization
Thank you Tom.
Hope is no methodology - so I am going to think about a workaround as I like to stay with the Acorn.
I am pretty sure to get step (& direction) signals with the desired ratio to the spindle encoder to the 4th axis motor.
So the 4th axis would get some own electronics & programming.
If the Centroid developers work through the hobbing item first then it's even better.
So I will place another order.
Best regards
