I hear ya and wondered the same thing but there must be a reason and that is a question for Centroid. You could write you own homing script and have them reset if you know how to do this, I know I don't. :D

if you lose the soft limits, just do a restore report to reinstate the configuration they way it was, then solve the issue as to why the homing cycle won't complete.
