Supercam to Acorn

Post by jasonGO »

Good news I have purchased an Acorn controller.
I am moving over from an old Win 98 machine- running Accelus Controllers and servo motors.
Here is where I stand- the machine was 100% functional at the time of the switch.
Each controller had 4 wires going into it from the old DB25 connector.
Those wires were as follows:
ORANGE - PWM Ref Input
WHITE - Direction Input
YELLOW - Enable
BLACK - Signal Ground

This is highlighted on the DB25 pin diagram that is connected to the controller

I tested the Acorn unit to ensure I had all of the drives marked correctly it is fine.
I hooked up the controllers to Acorn using the following.

ORANGE - STEP
WHITE - DIRECTION
YELLOW - ENABLE
BLACK - COM

I left the wires into the controllers unchanged.

This is where it gets strange. All motors enable as they should but only X moves in both directions- the other motors do not move. The acorn shows that they are moving but nothing happens other than motor engagement.
Watching and reading it seems as though I need to have connections on the Ref(+) pin 2 (Jumper to direction)on the attachment and Ref(-) Pin 14 on the attachment (maybe Set out of Acorn)

I say that but again the X axis is working fine with only the 4 original inputs.

What I have done thus far- I have switched out the X axis output to Z and Y to see of those would turn with no success. I have also taken the DB 25 connector off the controller and switched those around to see if it was an issue on that end to no success.

Looking for next steps or something that I blatantly missed.

Thanks Marty.

I am starting from scratch I do not know much about the motors. I might will create another post to see of anyone has motors that are similar to mine and find out what set up they have.
