Taig Mill controller almost done

Post by Richards »

I decided it was time to put one of my Acorns to use to control a Taig CNC ready mill. I bought a 24X24X8 enclosure a little while ago to house the electronics. The subplate is just the right size for what I had in mind. Here's a photo of the subplate without the wiring duct covers installed and without the wires zip-tied. It has the temporary AC cord connected to the main breaker. Everything worked when power was applied. Case switches should arrive on Monday and then I can mount everything into the enclosure.

Top section: Main breather, three tier terminal blocks for AC in, midget size fuse holders for power supplies, 24VDC contactor to control drives power supply, MDR-100-24 power supply, DM542 drives, LSR-250-48 power supply.

Middle section: DB25 breakout board, Acorn V4 controller, relay board.

Bottom section: Midget size fuse holder, 24VDC terminal blocks, GND terminal blocks, E-Stop terminal blocks, indicator LED and contactor latching circuit terminal blocks, stepper connection terminal blocks, stepper drives terminal blocks, midget fuse holder.

Here are some photos of the finished controller. Pardon the poor quality. Space is tight and my iPhone photo skills are very limited. I'm using a NUC i3 to run the Centroid software. The 200 oz-in Oriental Motor PK268-02A motors driven by DM542 drivers at 48VDC can jog at 150 ipm. I've got the jog set to 100 ipm until I can run some speed tests. The drivers are set to 800 steps per revolution to match the Teknic ClearPath servos that I plan on using sometime in the future. (With the corona virus shutting so many shops down, I'll have to wait to see what markets are still active when things settle down.) I don't have the homing proximity sensors installed yet, so I've just jumpered the connections to act as if they were N/C switches.
